We ran a game last night using my NAPOLEONIC NAVAL WARFARE 1.8 rules and 1/600th scale ships.
A US Frigate Div. (four Frigates, from 24 – 44 gun) and a merchant convoy (five merchantman + two 18 gun Corvette ) along the North African coast.
They were attacked by Barbary Pirates eight Xebec's and six groups of three gun boats each.
The US Frigate Div. intercepted the Xebec's but took some heavy damage, USS Constitution struck her colors! And two of the other Frigate's were forced to flee the area. One survived with minor damage.
The merchant convoy were attacked by the gun boats and lost one merchantman and the rest got away over the horizon.
The Barbary Pirates took heavy losses from the Frigate's broad sides. (Normally with these rules you will have maybe one ship have its magazines blow up from a critical damage roll.) The Barbary Pirates had four Xebec's and one group of gun boats have there magazines blow up. Note many ships (both sides) took more damage from the flaming wreckage!
The Barbary Pirates attempted board many the US ships but the broadsides kept them down and off the US ships.
Three of the Xebec's were forced to flee back to port.
Over all a good game.
