This period is new to me. I have been reading about the Turkish War (post-siege of Vienna 1683), the Venetian campaigns in Greece, Sedgemoor campaign, the Jacobite Rising of 1689 and Louis' XIV's wars. On the military side my meager sources discuss that "this was a transintional period". I know pikes declined, muskets increased. It was a change from matchlock to flintlock and from plug bayonet to ring bayonet. I'm looking for an overview that discusses these changes and which armies changed.
Thanks,
Andrew

In contrast to the later risings, I'd maintain that the 1689 Rising was a Williamite one not a Jacobite one ;-)

There's a WRG book "From Pike to Shot 1685-1720" which is pretty useful for armies and uniforms, but not that much history. Chandler's "Art of Warfare in the Age of Marlborough" is a good overview, and Nosworthy's "Anatomy of Victory, Battle Tactics 1689-1763" is good for the nuts and bolts of formations etc. These books are pretty much focused on Western Europe. You might find it useful to join up at the LOA forums, there's plenty of knowledgeable people over there. leagueofaugsburg.com
