They were released at the same time. The GW stuff is an unrelated range, and there is no reason the two should mix.

It's unfortunate, because those GW Empire knights make great early Italian Wars gensdarmes. It's just a shame about the size of the figures and the monster horses they are on. I have tried to find a metal horse to put them on, but the figures are just too big.

I just have one gendarmes pack and they are 29mm tall. From the theoretical center of their outstetched legs to where their head would be in the helmet. The horses are rather wide in the rump and have small heads.
