In other words, which ruleset have you gamed the most battles with? With which ruleset have you logged the most gaming time? Which ruleset have you had the most tabletop experience with, even if only solo?

Command Decision. Picked it up when it first came out, upgraded through to the latest version.

Played lots of others, but CD has the best "feel" to me.

BuckeyeBob09 Dec 2008 9:07 p.m. PST

Arc of Fire--land skirmish
GQ2 and Fire on the Waters (about equal)--naval
Airforce/Dauntless --air

aecurtis Fezian09 Dec 2008 9:08 p.m. PST

"1944": used to play it a *lot* After that, CD, I suppose.

Nowadays I enjoy BKC and IABSM more, though.

My greatest experience is with Command Decision III, but this amounts to only a few games in the last 15+ years. I probably own most higher level WWII rule sets (i.e. non-skirmish), but will now buy Blitzkrieg Commander after having just received and skimmed a copy of Cold War Commander.

vdal181209 Dec 2008 9:09 p.m. PST

Probably Command Decision, followed closely by PBI. Although I haven't played Command Decision in a long time I have all 4 versions of the ruleset and have logged the most time playing it.

Recently I've been playing PBI and am most familiar with those rules at the moment.

We've also played BKC and we're planning a new campaign.

Every now and then, some friends would pull out a home brewed set of rules that the called "Platoon Leader". Good game, but I never got to play it that much.
Then, 4 of our group decided to try out some of the rules out there, and Flames of War was the first choice. We like it, so we stuck with it.
There are some loopy moments in the game (to say the least), but it gives a good feel, and that is what it's all about. It gives us a chance to paint tanks, and exchange trash talk.

Pictors Studio09 Dec 2008 9:17 p.m. PST

I 've played flames of war more than any other ruleset too.

Oddball09 Dec 2008 9:20 p.m. PST

"Battleground"

Played many games before I burnt out on the rules. They were great and opened new doors for platoon level games. I just burnt out on too many dice rolls, but a very good system.

"I Ain't Been Shot, Mum" is next and is currently my favorite.

Just started playing "Troops, Weapons & Tactics". I like the idea, but haven't gotten a good feel for the rules yet. I've only played 3 games.

Can't play CD for several reasons, but know several gamers who do and one that that is almost the only rules he games.

Kampfgruppe Cottrell09 Dec 2008 9:29 p.m. PST

Battleground WWII for me. Been playing it fir 10+ years now I think and I just don't need anything else to get me through my gaming but it.

RavenscraftCybernetics09 Dec 2008 9:30 p.m. PST

Nuts!

DJButtonup09 Dec 2008 9:30 p.m. PST

Played weekly games of Battleground for two years, and they totally burned me out on skirmish. Then I moved and was introduced to Arc of Fire, very similar but AoF makes more sense and has a nice efficiency to it that I enjoy.

Above skirmish I've had most experience with BattleFront (from the Fire and Fury Fellas) and find they work quite well giving a good game with the right feel and very little weirdness.

Aside from that I've played some CD and a little Flames of War (which I didn't care for at all.)

SgtPain09 Dec 2008 9:31 p.m. PST

1)15mm Flames of War.
2)20mm Easy Eight's Battleground WWII.
3)1/285 Spearhead.

Grey Ronin09 Dec 2008 9:35 p.m. PST

Interesting that there's only two Flames of War responses on the list so far?

Our gaming group have played FoW for years and branched into WW1 FoW and are looking now at a FoW Modern…

Personally I'm a Platoon level gamer so stick with Disposable Heroes.

rtaylor09 Dec 2008 9:39 p.m. PST

Command Decision 4 (Test of Battle), mainly because that's what my friends like to play. I'd like to play more Kampfgruppe Commander 2.

Thanks,

Tractics – which tells you how long its been since I actually played a WW2 wargame (aside from a demo of "Nuts")

Command Decision I or II (probably II). I own II and IV but haven't played them. CD I was one of my first rules sets.

Battlefront: WWII. It's the only set of rules that feels right to me.

Gallowglass09 Dec 2008 10:08 p.m. PST

Disposable Heroes – 50%
Rapid Fire – 30%
Arc of Fire – 10%
A Corner of Hell – 10%

BCantwell09 Dec 2008 10:16 p.m. PST

Flames of War. Fast and fun. I've been playing it since soon after it hit the States.

Rapid Fire
BKC
Disposible Heroes

McWong7309 Dec 2008 10:43 p.m. PST

FoW, no question.

Bit of Blitzkrieg Commander, bit of Rapid Fire years ago and one game of Command Decision. FoW just nailed it for me.

Personal logo Wolfshanza Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2008 10:58 p.m. PST

WRG micro armor but haven't played in decades. Done some FOW a coupla' tears ago (have italians) but nothing recently.

Hastati09 Dec 2008 11:40 p.m. PST

Command Decision (from 1st ed on) for me, although I now prefer to play BKC, IABSM, or Rapid Fire. As I get older I reguire less bells and whistles on a rules set to have a good time.

Flames of War. I don't play or like the game anymore.

Surferdude10 Dec 2008 12:22 a.m. PST

Skirmish – NUTS, before that Battleground WWII and Arc of Fire.

Company + – PBI and PBI II then Flames of War (a lot), then BKC – nowadays tend to stay with Platoon and below though to be honest.

Memoir 44 – on a hex table in 10mm has tended to take over the Company + stuff.

Aliosborne10 Dec 2008 12:38 a.m. PST

Rapid fire – company/battalion level

SOTR 1949 – Belllum Europa – Platoon level ww2 and www2

This is very hard to answer,I have played so many different ones for WW2 and I'm always chopping and changing.

In the 70s & 80s it was probably WRG 1925-50, 90s, probably Spearhead, and now??? I really couldn't say. Maybe Megablitz in terms of gaming duration (generally play all day games for that), but in terms of numbers of battles probably homegrown stuff, either my variant of TAC:WW2 or 'A Platoon Commanders War' or 'Battlegroup' by John Armatys.

Frothers Did It Anyway10 Dec 2008 2:38 a.m. PST

Crossfire by a very large margin.

Sparker10 Dec 2008 3:04 a.m. PST

WRG 1920-50 when playing with experienced and knowledgeable WW2 buffs.

Rapid Fire when playing with young naval ratings to try and convince them the hobby does not start and end with Warhammer.

bullant10 Dec 2008 4:07 a.m. PST

Beer and Pretzels Skirmish

Chain Reaction modified for WWII (back when "Nuts" was probably still an idea in Ed Texiera's mind)

I guess I like a little chaos in my games ;-)

Since no one else has mentioned it… Bill, why did you want to know??

Martin Rapier10 Dec 2008 4:57 a.m. PST

marcbazelmans10 Dec 2008 5:40 a.m. PST

Panzermarsch for me the most realistic of rules so far. Apart from the one i play with a few freinds ocasionally wich ar home brew.

Schogun10 Dec 2008 5:50 a.m. PST

My group has played so many RCW games now that I'd have to say "Red Actions" from The Perfect Captain.

Deserter10 Dec 2008 6:14 a.m. PST

Started with TAC WW2, switched to Crossfire, then GHQ Microarmour rules, now homemade one page rules… for old, lazy brains.

Ceterman10 Dec 2008 6:19 a.m. PST

Crossfire. Hands down.
Peter

TodCreasey10 Dec 2008 6:23 a.m. PST

Troops, Weapons and Tactics for me. Looked for a set of platoon rules we liked for a long time and these did the trick.

soldieroftheline10 Dec 2008 6:30 a.m. PST

Spearhead & Crossfire

Centurion904610 Dec 2008 6:34 a.m. PST

Initially BattleFront WW2, now exclusively Rapid Fire!

Honourable mention must go to Arc of Fire. I played an Eastern Front game at a Con and was very impressed by its playability and historical feel.
