I am looking for some Japanese Naval gun models in 20mm, 1/72, or 1/76 scale that could be used for island defence such as the Model 10 (1921) 8 cm, Model 3 (1914)12cm or Model 3 (1914) 14cm naval guns?

I am looking for some so they can be land based as part of the Ranawe Island defences.

Take a look at

irregularminiatures.co.uk

Go to 20mm really useful guns range……..

Japanese stuff is from type 35 onwards….

They are large guns, I have some of them for my 15mm WWI heavy artillery with Peter pig crews….They work though the guns are closer to 20mm scale….

Thanks MH – i took a gander at irregular's useful guns before making my post and didn't see any naval type guns, but they do have a good number of artillery pieces for use in my same game setting.

Have a Google for ship fittings firms…. I can't think of anyone offhand, but there's probably a likely suspect out there. If you're willing to settle for "naval guns" without regard to type, HR fittings do several US ones in 1/72, although not Japanese that I can think of. I'd also take a look at the Floating Drydock, as they carry a few lines that might have something.

US Casts makes a 1/76 scale 12cm gun on pedastal mount. A pretty simple model, I think it is supposed to be a Type 3.
My kit is unassembled and stored somewhere or other, or I'd try and get you a photo.

BTW, I couldn't find a reference to "Ranawe" Island on Google. Is this the correct name?

Would love to check out this (potential) scenario if you have a link.

King Neptune – There is a reason your Google-fu failed to find you any information… try this link for your info: link

"BTW, I couldn't find a reference to "Ranawe" Island on Google."

Say it out loud.

Back when I was playing at WWII Pacific in 20mm, I used the old Airfix Coastal Gun Emplacement and a couple of pedestal mounted AA from an Atlantic set for anti-boat guns. Of course these didn't look much like Japanese ordnance – but in most scenarios they remained concealed until they opened fire, and then were quickly obliterated by naval gunfire, so they didn't offend the eye for long.

Any one making them in 25/28 mm? The large coastal guns not the small mountain one by Company B.

I get it now. :-)

The London warroom has an 8inch gun in 25mm, HOUSTON'S NAVAL GUNS AND SHIPBOARD ARMAMENTS WC-44 $12.00 USD 8" quick fire Breach Loading Naval Gun (4" long) 1880's up looks great as a large costal gun. BIG HUNK of Lead.

I bought all Richard Houston's display mdoels of his 19th century coastal guns. So I have one of each. They are all beautiful guns (small 25mm) but definitely late 19th century pieces, which is why I didn't mention them.

Gun 6 in the REALLY USEFUL GUNS range has two forms that were commonly used as coastal artillery by the Japanese. Most of the artillery used for that purpose were older types no longer in front line service.
When I designed the REALLY USEFUL GUNS range I deliberately included many of the older types, not only for earlier wars, but because they were so widely used in WW2 as well.

Beside the RUG's range I have built some 15mm masters of the 25mm triple AA mounting for QRF. I'm not sure if they have produced it yet. But it is a Naval mounting.

Also the single and twin mounting of the 13.5mm AA in the Japanese range from QRF (made by another designer is a bit too large and more correctly 20mm or 1:76 scale, so it would be perfect for use as a 25mm single or twin.

"13.5mm AA… made by another designer is a bit too large and more correctly 20mm or 1:76 scale"

I assume you mean the 13.2mm Hotchkiss, in which case the barrels are a bit chunky (because it makes them easier to cast, and people complain about correctly scaled thickneses that bend easily) but otherwise it's about right:

No. I was referring to barrel length mostly. I was not really trying to annoy you. Its just that from the measurements I made of it, I thought it was an excellent 20mm! Could you have got the data mixed up?

GeoffQRF10 Dec 2008 2:44 p.m. PST

Don't know, I didn't make it, but I thought the length looked in proportion to those photos.
