I added these to the Wargames Factory League of Liberty and Union wish list. The Ming are the natural enemies of the samurai, having fought as allies of the Choson Koreans during Hideyoshi's invasion (aka The Imjin War).

Right now I've listed infantry, and will add artillery and cavalry if there's enough interest (unless someone beats me to it!).

Considering the size and scope of warfare practiced by the Ming, IMHO these would be a colourful force to field against a samurai army, and be worthy foes indeed if only by virtue of their numbers, reckless courage, and massed artillery park! evil grin

Well, went to the site to admire my handiwork, and TP's own "nycjadie" Himself beat me to it! No mater, I just submitted Ming armoured cavalry… evil grin

as we await the plastic figures, does anyone know of a company that makes 25+ mm lead Ming?

BlackWidowPilot Fezian07 Dec 2008 11:51 a.m. PST

Bob,

I wish I did!! I am hoping that if the Wargames Factory thing doesn't come through, the Perry Brothers will, having already done some stunning Choson Koreans! evil grin

Here's to Ming Chinese! Depending upon the interest, I'll likely up my preorder.

Two years ago I painted a 25mm Ming army. The only company that had Ming was Foundry, but they were later Ming.

I used Curteys Song Dynasty as a subsitute. It would be nice if someone offered early Ming. From my research it would be a very colorful force. There are plenty of depictions out there for painting guides.

Yes, the cav had armour and yes there are fire arms. There are plenty of depictions and descriptions of those. But, stay away from Osprey, they poorly depict the Ming.

" The only company that had Ming was Foundry, but they were later Ming."

Um, I hate to rain on yer parade, but those weren't Ming, but the later Q'ing (aka Manchu) Dynasty troops from the Taiping Rebellion… evil grin

The Ming troops we're talkin' about on this thread are those found battling Hideyoshi's samurai in Korea during the Imjin War at the end of the 16th century. Some of the Osprey volumes covering Japanese castles in Korea during the period, as well as the volume on Siege Weapons of the Far East from Osprey, depict some fairly well-rendered Ming troops, armour, weapons, and all.

Curtney's style unfortunately just doesn't cut it for me, so I'm holding out for something new… evil grin

Cheers! evil grin

Scheltrum Miniatures makes some rather nice Ming figures in the 28mm range. Great complement to their Yi Koreans and Japanese Samurai and/or Wako! They also have ship models to-scale for Ming, Yi and the Japanese.

OK, no Ming yet. Seems that waiting still longer is futile. Scheltrum went topsy, so the only provider of 28mm Ming now are SQL (no images) and Tiger (well, I do have some of their stuff).

Any other source of good Ming minis?

BTW: Is there a price for the most diligent research before opening a new thread (aka: absurd shameless threadomancy award)?

@Koxinga
0 new posts in the last 30 days is not the most promising facebook group, though I assume that 350 years after the demise of the Ming the amount of new information is limited.
Anyway, application to join sent :-)

Koxinga06 Mar 2020 8:37 p.m. PST

True, my apologies. We're working on it. Its a bit slow

Bowman06 Apr 2020 5:37 p.m. PST

Puster the amount of postings on a Facebook page has nothing to do with the availability of these figures. Koxinga and I have commissioned some Ming troops from Steve Barber. I will be using mine for the Imjin Wars. When they are available we will make them known on the appropriate boards for those interested. It is a process.

Plus, If you'd like to chip in, we can get more figures commissioned. Let us know on the FB page.
