Are the amphib MEUS running deserts, or camo? Any links to paint schemes?

Thanks..

Top Gun Ace04 Dec 2008 5:26 p.m. PST

I guess it depends.

I recall seeing both desert colored, and green camo'd AA7V's, if that is what you are referring to, in Iraq.

It's a mixture of stuff as Top Gun Ace says.

Here's a camo scheme I got off the defense images site: link

Give me a sec and I'll post up some actual photos I found.

Okay, Murphy, here's two photo links for you:

If you dig patiently you can find a treasure trove of paint guides here: link

Hope that helps!

Shawn.

No, no, no…

Murph, need to know which "current" era to give you good scoop.

Sorry, AAG, but I gotta advise him NOT to go off the pics – those are not even the up-gunned models of the tracks, and that desert scheme…. Oh, my, no.

I was in from 1983-2004 and had only seen that pattern on tracks in long-term storage; NEVER saw one even tooling around, much less actually assigned to a MEU.

I agree with Mardaddy… those tanks in those photos are the old MERDC camo… I think even te last reserve units repainted theirs a few years ago. Now it is just 3 tone NATO standart camo if it is not one tone desert tan:

Oh BTW… MERDC was officially used from 1976 till 1990.

Weird. The photos purport to be from '05 on and are straight from DoD – I think the one is captioned something like, "Marine Amphibious vehicles unload in Iraq" or something.

So, do either of you guys have any links to photos of what the actual current scheme looks like? I've got a bunch of these things to paint up.

I would strongly doubt that even stuff offloading from MPS ships have that old cammie scheme. Three tone or desert as MarDaddy and 14th Brooklyn have stated.

Ambush Alley Games05 Dec 2008 10:43 a.m. PST

Oh, I definitely believe guys who were there over some DoD archivist, Pete. I'd like to see photos of some of the stuff in theater, though, to get the bleached out colors right, if that makes sense.

You want weathering?

Shawn,

those photos can not be from 2005 for sure. If you look at the camo the soldiers are wearing that is 4-tone woodland. By 05 Marines were not allowed to wear that anymore but had to wear MARPAT.

Also if you look at the Amtrack… they are the old version (LVPT-7). The USMC only uses the version with the MK19 grenade launcher and 25mm Bushmaster anymore.

If you want the exact camo used, look at the link I gave.

Cheers,

Burkhard
