The best time of my life, really, for many reasons. And yes, there's a long, involved story about ending up in the Army after having been in the Air Force.

Frankss29 Nov 2008 12:32 p.m. PST

1973 – 1974 1st. Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (infantry)

Suffered ankle injury and as Canada had created a combined service, officailly no army, navy air force, therefore was medically remustered to aero engine technician.

did UN tour in Egypt and spent 15 of my years as an aero engine technician in search and rescue units.

Retired 1993.

Just a mention. Being able to remuster to another trade even voluntarily kept a lot of combat arms people in the forces. Was told average infanteer was in for 3 years.
But when they got the chance to go into another trade, the service retained some good men. They were used to hardship of field conditions and strict authority. In the end there were several ex combat arms personal on my crew.
