No, it's a new one on me – some sort of post-war experiment?

It is a German tank from World War II that was never built. It was an experimental design. That is all I know about it… Sorry.

I think they might be an early version of the Lowe series experimental tanks – designed, never built

You might try:

The hull comes from the E-Series (=Entwicklungsserie) tanks which were meant to enter production in 1946 to unify spare parts and building components. Judging by te number of road wheels (even though spaced a little too much)it is probably meant to represent the E-5 light tank. The hulls seems a little tall though and the turret does not look like any of the drawings I have seen and is probably pure fiction.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Thanks – I'd looked through my books and the achtung panzer website without finding a match so this is all helpful !

I guess I'll have to put together a 1946 what if ? scenario ('cos, of course, I've bought the kit !)

Notice that Pegasus also does a couple of other 1946 tanks in 1/72.

Also try wwiivehicles.com also. He has a lot of experimental/built in small numbers stuff on there if at least a prototype was made.

Hey those are cuter than a basket of kittens. They'd be super for Pulp adventure type games (if Dr. Evil has a legion of heavily armed minions guarding his lair that is)

How can it be "authentically Detailled" if they never existed?

Looks like heavily modified versions of VK 1601 or VK 1303, but the road wheels look wrong. As you can't see, I'm assuming a interlocked road wheel system like found on the Luchs (which has two outer and three inner road wheels per side). Looks like a light cannon or MG armament, with an ability for high angle fire. The turret looks more French than German, and the vehicle reminds me of the FCM-36. I'd guess it is something that never made it off the design board.

According to 'Special Panzer Variants' by Spielberger and Doyle it is a Special Vehicle V Porsche Type 245/1. Combat Weight: 18 tons. Crew: 3, Armament 5.5cm rapid fire gun with a belt feed. Designed for AT/AAA targets with an elevation of 90 degrees. Powered by a 10 cylinder gasoline motor type 101 which produces 316 HP. Armour: Hull 60mm Front. Top speed of 65km/h.

The design never went past the wooden mock-up scale model – stage of development.

I also wondered about the tank. I think MAJIC Minatures nailed it. The kit I bought was labelled German P-245-010 Tanks "Jaguarundi" so I checked out the Porsche (P) projects on the Auhtung Panzer website link and the Porsche Type 245/10 (245-010) is a vehicle designed for ground and air targets which fits with the kit's turret. I thought the suspension looked like the PzKpfw II Ausf C.
