I just watched this movie and enjoyed it very much. It is a about a section of British soldiers holding out against an assault of werewolves. It is kinda like "Predator" with werewolves.

What did you think of the movie?

It also has some gaming capablities. I'm thinking Brooks minis for the brits and maybe Westwind for the werewolves. I'd also want to do a conversion with a werewolf with a sword through him (see the movie ;).

Been there, done that.

Check out the Two Hour Wargames Yahoo group for scenario, pictures, and everything else using Chain Reaction rules.
The easiest way is post a message about Dog Soldiers and everyone can direct you to the info. Most of it is in the Files section.

It's been played many times over the last year and at conventions as well.

Hope this helps,
Ed the THW guy

Harbinger Magazine issue 4 has a variant on this idea - a Confrontation scenario using Griffin soldiers (late medieval religious fundamentalists) against Wolfen (9-foot tall wolf-men).

Was kinda disappointed in it when I saw it at the cinema- all the pre publicity indicated it was a 'serious' horror flick. Plus, being a modern gamer along with horror gaming, I found the military aspect pretty lame.

Then I watched it again on disc at a friend's 'horror weekend' and it all worked- gloriously so. It's now one of my favourites of last year. Very funny, smart and gruesome film.

This movie has become one of my favorite Horror movies. It one of the best.

THE GOD20 Dec 2003 9:02 a.m. PST

I loved the movie. It makes you realize how desperate room to room, house to house fighting was and is.

PaulTimms20 Dec 2003 9:40 a.m. PST

Superb,

What more could i want, blood, gore, firepower and British humour. The bloke luring the Werewolves out by chanting come and have a go if you think you're hard enough had me in stitches.

Then i watched 28 days later all of the above (not much humour) it was a bit predictable but i loved it.

The Superfigs werewolves might work too.

Go to Catalogue and then Werewolves.

combatpainter Fezian20 Dec 2003 10:38 a.m. PST

West Wind werevolves are identical to movie werewolves.
Loved the flick. It was fun.

the trojan bunny20 Dec 2003 11:09 a.m. PST

Thanks for the replies y'all!

On another note, my favorite part was right before he gets eaten one of the soldiers says "I hope I give you the sh$*s", I laughed so hard!

A Truly Top Film!

FYI - it was actually filmed in Luxembourg, not Scotland, due to funding from Luxembourg, I think. Also, the soldiers refer to "Special Forces" all the time, which is a bit peculiar - normally they'd be saying "SAS". I also understand that Americans can find the slang a little hard to follow!

"I also understand that Americans can find the slang a little hard to follow!"

Luckily my parents are jordies so I could understand all the slang!

Trojan
It's an action film so If I miss a word or two I still get it! But I have heard that before. After seeing it. I don't understand what slang could have been missed. THE GUYS ARE BEING ATTACKED BY WEREWOLVES! End of story! Action is cool. LOL

"Great Movie Did you notice the references to the movie ZULU?"

That stuff wasn't just in the movie they really did that at Rorke's Drift. Also, when they're in the house one of the soldiers compares there situation to that at Rorke's Drift, although he gets the number of Zulu wrong (there was 4000, not 10,000!).

there was a sizable thread on this before too.

Great movie and great gaming material.

I also liked the bit right towards the end where the last good guy is facing the ex-US soldier in the cellar "So, xyz, have you started licking your own balls yet? Oh that's right you don't have any". Excellent!

Gentlmen, anyone who enjoyed this film in strongly encouraged to get the DVD and watch it with Commentary. Adds even more fun to the film experience.

Trojan Bunny - your parents are Geordies yet you understand English slang - how - for the rest of us in the UK Newcastle is like a foreign country ;-)

Re Zulu references. I think the Sgt talking to Ryan (ref to "SAS Author" Chris Ryan ???) he says something like "Be a nice gentleman and stop frightening my lads" which is, IIRC, what Sgt. Frank Bourne (Nigel Green) says to Rev Otto Witt (Jack Hawkins)

alien BLOODY HELL surfer29 Dec 2003 3:52 p.m. PST

Trojan Bunny - you call Mackems Geordies and you live? Oh my god this guy must be a super hero ;-) - PS - I have some good friends from that way and I think it's safe to say that the people from the North East are some of the friendliest you can meet in the UK - so I'm only kidding with the digs ;-)

Kampfgruppe Cottrell02 Feb 2007 12:20 p.m. PST

GREAT FLICK!

Battledamaged03 Feb 2007 8:44 a.m. PST

Fantastic film, and theres loads of references to other films in it. As a sidenote Conrad, not all SF in HM Forces are SAS, they are just the well known Army ones, there are others (SBS for one, theyre Royal Navy)not so well known ones, and I and my colleagues refer to SF all the time as 'Special Forces', as you dont really know who they belong to!

Azantihighlightning03 Feb 2007 4:56 p.m. PST

Got a load of friends who worked on this one – considering the budget restraints the guy pulled off a miracle.

I hope he still makes Outpost.

Kampfgruppe Cottrell04 Feb 2007 3:38 a.m. PST

Whats Outpost?

Lowtardog04 Feb 2007 12:12 p.m. PST

Lowtardog05 Feb 2007 9:42 a.m. PST

I cant beleive the sequel has americans in it they seem to need to get in on every act first 28 weeks later and now Dog soldier s 2….well thats my rant over with

Mike Nolan06 Feb 2007 6:15 a.m. PST

If you listen closely during Spoon's dialogue about Rorke's Drift you can hear the refrain of the "Men of Harlech" theme from the film 'Zulu'.

I just got the DVD for 1.99 euros at the discounted disc box at the supermarket. Very, very cool. Puts back in me some faith on modern horror movies.

blackscribe15 Feb 2007 11:33 a.m. PST

I liked it. I needed a Scottish buddy to translate it (the captions didn't help), but otherwise very nice.

Lowtardog15 Feb 2007 3:09 p.m. PST

Scottish!!!! they are English my canny lad :0) Geordies only the Corporal is Scottish :0)

blackscribe16 Feb 2007 7:24 a.m. PST

Yes, I realize that, but he was able to provide translations nonetheless.

It's a very cool movie. Great for those of us with a 'gamer' mind.

From Dog Soldiers 2 write-up;

What follows is a night of ultimate horror as the U.S. forces, armed to the teeth with modern warfare technology, are about to take on their greatest foe, savage supernatural beasts who think and act like soldiers. The battle for humanity will be fought on this night…Man vs. Beast…Soldier vs. Dog Soldier!

Jesus, Heavily armed American Special forces, the 'blue on blues' alone mean the werewolves can just wait then eat the wounded survivors.
Why do they do this? all the humour, lost in the first 'Sir, yes sir!'
All the suspense, lost in the first million rounds,
America saves the world from werewolves. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

By John 5429 Jan 2009 12:58 p.m. PST

I hope they all get eaten.
