I've ordered some Skytrex ships from the Ironclad range and one from the Transistional Steam range for the French but I'm looking for other possible sources of French ships in 1/1200. Or am I entering scratchbuilding waters? Are there any ACW or similar models that I could use / convert for the purpose? Could I get away with CSS Stonewall as a (possible) adddition to the French fleet? Any ideas? Many thanks Jim |

I am not familiar with the Skytrex models. Great Endeavors sells some 1/10000 ships. Dont know if you can mix them. link |

A company called Hai makes an extensive range of ships from the period around 1859 – 1910. However, they are in the range of $50-80 per – probably not what you were looking for. |

Yes, you are essentially entering scratchbuilding territory. |

Oops! I meant 1/1000 for the Great Endeavors ships. |

What period? France had some turret-ships (like Huascar or Schorpionen). They also bought a casemate ironclad from the US – Dunderberg, IIRC. -Kle. |

Thanks for the info. Those Great Endeavors ships look promising if they don't look out of scale alongside the Skytrex ones. I'm really interested in the 1860's and 1870's. Any tips for scratchbuilding would be very useful! |

Personally, I think the GE ships look a bit chunky beside those from Skytrex. Langton do the USS Onondaga, which France purchased post-civil war. If you're making a minor historical tweak, the Stonewall and its sister could indeed be added to your fleet. |

Thanks fleabeard I didn't know about the Onondaga so that's a definate addition to the fleet! |
