Hello Everyone, I was curious to see what favorite miniatures everyone has out there of skeletons whether of New or "Out of Production" miniatures. These ones made by Otherworld out of the UK look really neat at picture Thanks, Sean in California |
Jeigheff | 09 Nov 2008 3:48 p.m. PST |
I never painted very many fantasy miniatures. But I really liked the skeletons that were part of the Minifigs "Valley of the Four Winds" series. They were fun to paint. |
noraneko | 09 Nov 2008 4:15 p.m. PST |
Otherworld skeletons are my new favorites, bar none. |
maninthemoon | 09 Nov 2008 4:35 p.m. PST |
Grenadier made a "Fanstay Lords" boxed set in the 1980s called "Skeletons, Raiders of the Undead #6002" that were to die for at the time, so to speak. See link, picture |

I really dig the old Reaper Arachno Assassins with all the arms. They are hokey but awesome. |
noraneko | 09 Nov 2008 5:10 p.m. PST |
I had that boxed set, Sean. It really is fantastic. I've actually been looking for it on eBay for the past two weeks. |
nycjadie | 09 Nov 2008 5:12 p.m. PST |
I like the GW plastic skeletons for realism, but there were some classics by Grenadier, Dark Horse and Ral Partha. |
maninthemoon | 09 Nov 2008 5:54 p.m. PST |
Hello noraneko, If you are patient, one will show up on Ebay. There is one on there now #260309972649, but it ends in 10 minutes and is missing a figure I think. Take Care, Sean |
maninthemoon | 09 Nov 2008 5:58 p.m. PST |
Actually, it looks all to be there
I have one already or would buy it. It looks cheap enough. Sean |
noraneko | 09 Nov 2008 6:32 p.m. PST |
Missed it. Curses! Fortunately, I am in no rush. Thanks, Sean. |
maninthemoon | 09 Nov 2008 6:45 p.m. PST |
No problem. I just looked. It went cheap. Luckily, there will be more. Sean |
mweaver | 09 Nov 2008 7:23 p.m. PST |
The Valley of the Four winds had some nice one, but the previous-to-most-recent GW plastic skellies are probably my favorite – inexpensive, multi-part plastic figures that made for lots of variety. |
DesertScrb | 09 Nov 2008 7:47 p.m. PST |
My favorites are the Games Workshop metal figures from the late '80s/early '90s. They just have a certain character. |

My favorites are the Games Workshop metal figures from the late '80s/early '90s. They just have a certain character. Hello DesertScrb, Do you know any of the names of the lines? Sean in California |
wolvermonkey | 09 Nov 2008 10:15 p.m. PST |
I'm pretty happy with my Reaper Warlord skellies. Although the starter set comes with some stiff poses they bend well enough to change up the poses so they are all not the same. |
DesertScrb | 09 Nov 2008 10:28 p.m. PST |
Sorry; to be more clear: My favorite figures are the metal GW skeletons for Warhammer Fantasy that came out prior to 1990 or so. I don't know the names of the lines, I remember there was a boxed called the Nightmare Legion. There was skeleton command and skeleton infantry ranges, and a line of metal minis with skeletal horses (also metal) as well. The Stuff of Legends page has more details: link |

The Otherworld skellies look very nice, I'll be getting them next time I order from them. The Confrontation (unpainted metal) morbid puppets are probably still my favourites, in particular the first one here link |
mad mac | 10 Nov 2008 4:17 a.m. PST |
I loved the GW Skeleton Horde – plastic skeletons with spears, scythes etc. |
TheMasterworkGuild | 10 Nov 2008 4:46 a.m. PST |
I remember having a few Iron Claw skeletons link I like the prices now! 4 for £2.50! The links under 'undead' on this page: link |
Lord Billington Wadsworth | 10 Nov 2008 5:05 a.m. PST |
Right now, I love the new skeletons from Games Workshop in their regiment kits. They are a bit "Smaller" in that they look like thy come from inside 28mm figures and not some giant. On the other hand, for characters – there are a bunch of Reaper undead I simply adore. I just picked up some barrow wardens I really like. |

Grenadier"Fantasy Lords"
especially the cavalry. |

Alxbates | 10 Nov 2008 12:01 p.m. PST |
My favorite skeleton miniature of all time is the Skeletal War Mammoth from Grenadier – picture But those Otherworld skeletons are great, the best standard human skeleton figures I've seen in a long time. -Alex |
noraneko | 10 Nov 2008 3:12 p.m. PST |
That war mammoth is indeed a classic. I remember it was a pain to assemble. |
mbourgeois | 10 Nov 2008 6:38 p.m. PST |
Don't have a favourite line but I like the skeletons that come uncluttered so I can use them for victims in car wrecks and other post apocalyptic scenarios. |
Ethics Gradient | 11 Nov 2008 3:34 p.m. PST |
Another vote for the Grenadier ones, I still have a decent batch that I've never painted, including some cavalry (decent sized horse skeletons!). Wish I'd had the money back then for the 'big, undead they did; the mammoth, rhino, giant and dragon. I have a distinct soft spot for this chap too! (not strictly fantasy though) link |

Arent Mirilton reselling all the old Fantasy Warriors stuff again, including all the old dragons and war beasts |
zerozero | 15 Nov 2008 6:28 p.m. PST |
Don't think I've met a skeleton miniature I didn't like. Currently partial to the current reaper warlord ones. |
Daffy Doug | 16 Nov 2008 12:54 p.m. PST |
The old Citadel skellies that sold individually were without doubt the very best, ever. I am talking about the 80's, btw. I think that DesertScrb and I are talking about the same ones. |

Really appreciate seeing the different figs. Out of the group shown by Mr. Larsen I have only one example among my collection. As an older collector I stick with 25mm figs. Don't really have a fav. as I mix companies, RalPartha, MiniFigs, Grenadier, and a few Armory figs. I see Mirliton carries the old Grenadier line. link Any place in the U.S. to mail order them? I'm always scouting for different figs. to add to the troop, have located some Grenadier I might try for. Really miss the Digital Dragon and the Virtual Alchemist. Have found no other comparable sites. I don't do auctions. -dj--Joe |

The Mega Minis skellies are good-good value too |
AndrewGPaul | 09 Feb 2009 2:39 a.m. PST |
I like the Cursed Legion Dogs of War unit for Warhammer – from 5th/6th edition. An undead High Elf, goblin, Saurus, Dwarf and Orc. The current plastic sprue gives you horns to make some undead UNgor beastmen, but it's a pity there's not more undead non-humans on the WFB range. |
Mooseworks8 | 09 Feb 2009 11:13 a.m. PST |
RAFM, the skeleton warriors box set from GW, and believe it or not the skeletons from the Prince August fantasy home cast molds are awesome (if you can get one to cast properly). |
JoeGKushner | 21 Feb 2009 12:12 p.m. PST |
Megamini has a nice price and they don't paint up too bad picture |
derjager | 21 Feb 2009 3:59 p.m. PST |
How large are the Megamini figs? 25mm? 28mm? --dj--Joe |
Andy ONeill | 21 Feb 2009 4:14 p.m. PST |
I really liked chariot miniatures. 15mil. Incredibly detailed and delicate figures. Seems they were bought out by Magister Militum back in 2002. |
JoeGKushner | 21 Feb 2009 7:57 p.m. PST |
52minis.blogspot.com Second or third pic down I've got some skeletons facing a Chronopia fig. Overall they appear to be 'large' 25 mm. |
derjager | 22 Feb 2009 10:01 a.m. PST |
JoeG, thanks much. I think large 25's could fit in with what I've got. I'll have to give a couple of them a try. --dj--Joe |
Norscaman | 22 Feb 2009 10:20 a.m. PST |
To me, the two best are Otherworld and Confrontation. Check these out: link link In fact, Otherworld is the best new manufacturer in my book. But, it also prevents me from buying them that they are so pricey. Their skeletons are not bas at 3 pounds each, but their Gnolls are pricey! 11 pounds for two gnolls is expensive. I will still buy them, eventually, but the deeper it cuts into my gaming budget, the longer I wait. Shipping, however, from Otherworld is very reasonable. I think that you would find that Otherworld's minis are about 30-35mm in actuality. They are billed as 28mm on the site, so don't expect 25mm, which almost nothing is anymore, except for classic castings. |
chironex | 22 Feb 2009 6:45 p.m. PST |
Eureka. The metal is disturbingly soft, but the sculpting is anatomically less nonsensical than most. |
Tiberius | 26 Mar 2009 4:33 a.m. PST |
You can still get the Valley of the Four Winds Skeletons including the recruiting party and the great bell being pushed by a team of skeletons. minifigs.com/catalog Here is a link to pictures of an Eureka Skeleton next to a Valley of the Fours Winds Skeleton. The Valley of the Four Winds skeleton is about 25mm. link |
derjager | 08 Sep 2009 5:10 p.m. PST |
Tiberius, thanks for the links. I added some of the Minifigs skeletons, the recruting party + a couple of others. Enjoyed painting them. Regards,--dj--Joe |

For indviduals, I like Reaper. For mass units, the Mega Minis are perfect. |
Stewbags | 09 Sep 2009 3:32 a.m. PST |
I am with Mr Larson, the pre-slotta GW undead rock (as do the gobbos and orcs, broo/beastmen, and trolls). The grenadier and minifigs undead stuff also were very nice. They all work rather well together imho. |

Rackham, the one leaning on his spear looking exhasuted is great along with the one climbing out of the ground. William |
