Are the H&R figures for Normans / Saxons / Vikings any good?
What is the chain mail like?

Thinking of Hastings (Impetus).

Thanks,
Bevan

You don't have a lot of options in 6mm. Irregular and H&R are about it. H&R are small and that limits the details on them. Don't recall exactly what (if any) chain mail there was.

I've got some sort of Dark Ages H&R, to be honest there is very little detail.
Granted, these are old figs from the late 70's or early 80's, not sure they've changed.

There is some very nice 10mm stuff for the period out there though.

If you are prepared to turn a blind eye to subsitutions, some Baccus can be used as substitutes.

Some of the late Romans have round shields (and have varying levels of armour) and could be used to Saxons. And some of the heavier cataphracts could by used for Norman horse. I often use Germans to fill in as spear-and-shield troops as well as a source of cavalry.

You can see the chain on Baccus, but not unless you look closely. If you are really interested in that kind of detail being visible, you might be happier in 10mm.

there is also a pack of welsh infantry which would mix in pretty well.
