I'm looking to supplement my small (but very nice) collection of Thoroughbred ships with some of the Peter Pig Hammerin' Iro range. I've heard that some of the HI models are better than others. Which models in the range would you sugest are the 'best' ones in terms of accuracy, detail and casting quality? Thanks in advance for your help :O) |

I'm partial to double-ended sidewheel gunboats myself, so I like Peter Pig's 7-36, USS Sassacus: picture The prototype is from a large class of vessels, with considerable variations in detail, which is useful to explain differences between different companies' models. It goes well alongside its counterparts from Bay Area Yards, too. I wouldn't claim it to be on the same level as Toby's Thoroughbred models. The masts, as you can see, are quite sturdy, and the details not as fine: just look at this in comparison: picture But the lines are there, and the dimensions are reasonably accurate, and the Peter Pig model paints up well. At half the price, it's worth considering if you plan a flotilla of these. Allen |

aecurtis sort of summed it up. If you can afford it I would stick to Thoroughbred. The Peter Pig are a good compromise between cost and quality. |
