November already?

Last months update
TMP link

October numbers:
(Bought, sold, and primed numbers stand alone, while the progress and finished lists are mutually exclusive)

Bought (34)
-4 GW Dogs of War (4 Leopolds Leopard Company)
-1 GW Dark Elf (Cold One Chariot)
-1 GW Lizardman Tehenhauin Prophet of Sotek
-1 Vor Growler Razorback Onehorn
-1 Vor Growler Bluefang Onehorn
-2 Warmachine Cryx (2 Nightwretches)
-2 Warmachine Merc (Freebooter WJ, 1 Steelhead Cav)
-1 Hordes Skorne Cyclops Shaman
-8 Hordes Everblight (Blighted Legionarires)
-2 Battletech (Centurion, Assassin)
-1 Wargods Asar Master of Words
-9 Ral Partha Shadowrun (Orc Gangster, 8 "Basic Runners")
-1 Reaper Chronoscape Dwarf w/Chaingun

SOLD (0)
Almost 50 miniatures have been consigned to the "for sale" pile, however. I won't count their credit against my purchase total until they actually sell.

Primered (12)

Painting Progress (39)
(A pretty scattershot collection this time around)

Finished (11)
-2 Battletech (Champion, Flea)
-1 Rezolution APAC (Arashi)
-1 Warmachine Merc (Fiona the Black)
-7 Brigade AmRep (4 Gunships, 3 DD)

This brings the YTD numbers to
Net Growth: +513
Painted: 281

513 growth/305 days = 1.682 minis per day.
281 painted/513 bought = 54.8% of growth painted.

This remains behind the purchase goal (<1.5 per day) and is still barely ahead of the painting goal (>50% painted). The purchase ratio is improved from last month, however.

Existing project progress was again limited. Warmachine and Battletech saw a couple miniatures completed, and the Rezolution and Brigade AmRep fleet projects moved forward for the first time in 20+ months.

The 15mm WAB project sits, though it may see progress next month.

The big change this month was that the FLGS I had been painting at closed. Since it was also the center of play for most of my larger projects, many of those have been marginalized for the moment, while the smaller projects have come back to the fore. The painting station at home was never really dismantled, just mostly unused, and it saw use again this month. The AmRep fleet and Star marine projects may have to reach completion before I hit anything else seriously at home, but progress is progress.

The edit button made that post soooo much easier. Thanks Bill!

Well, I decided that "phlegm-speckled" was not a finish I wanted for my minis, so I stayed away from the painting table for much of the month. Still, the numbers went in the right direction.

My pledge is "paint more than I buy". Everything is 28mm-ish unless otherwise specified.

Painted in October:
2 Hasslefree adventurers (including "Witch Hazel" for Hallowe'en)
4 Assault Group Modern US Rangers
1 St Trinian's Lower School girl (Eureka, with a lot of Assault Group hand grenades)
3 Pulp Figures scientists
3 Four-Color Superfigs (including a killer scarecrow for the day of Whitley Bay's scarecrow festival)
3 Artizan Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Bought in October:
4 Hasslefree adventurers
3 die-cast 1960s sports cars in 1/43 (which is, yes, too big for 28mm, but will have to do until someone makes a Lotus Elan in 1/56)

Totals for October:
Painted: 16
Bought: 7
Net +9

Totals for year (since 1 April) to date:
Painted: 137
Bought: 122
Net: +15

TodCreasey01 Nov 2008 6:01 p.m. PST

3 3mm bags
10 28mm paras
6 28mm 1812 Americans
1 28mm Hasslefree Elvis

Purchases
3 28mm RAFM Elvii

+17 for the month brings me to +19 for the year and -4 vehicles. I have an Adler order on the way but it isn't huge so it is looking good for November

Jana Wang01 Nov 2008 6:17 p.m. PST

Painted 4 Knuckleduster horses, working on the riders. Also painted 1 Mageknight golem, and finished a Reaper fairy that has been on the table most of the year. Then this week I managed to complete start-to-finish the Gauntfield scarecrow figure for the halloween contest.

Bought 1 limited ed Reaper halloween figure. It's been a quiet month.

Does scenery count???

It's your Pledge, Murphy. You tell us.

I've counted a few discrete scenery bits in past months…

So far since Feb 08 my total for the year is…

And it's going to get worse as my order for Wargames goes out tomorrow, and I also join the OG Army…

God this hobby is horrible….

Cosmic Reset01 Nov 2008 7:31 p.m. PST

Yep, Scenery counts if you want it to. I count it.

Had a great three weeks before getting bogged down with the flu and work. Made a lot of progress on my Modern Africa project.

Purchased 157 Peter Pig Modern Africa figs.

Painted 167 figs:
1x 28mm GW SpaceOrk Tank Busta
40x 15mm Peter Pig French Foreign Legion

66x 15mm Peter Pig African Regulars
24x 15mm Peter Pig African Civilians, Looters, Reporters

On the month 167 painted, 157 purchased, + 10

Kind of a week year, but at least I'm on the plus side, hopefully I can extend that a bit in Novemeber.

TheWarStoreSweetie03 Nov 2008 4:36 p.m. PST

My totals for the month are 0 painted and 10 bought. I won't be painting steadily for another 3 weeks or so until the hand is rehabbed. I think I need to start looking forward to next year.

nycjadie03 Nov 2008 6:07 p.m. PST

I bought scads of miniatures this month. I'm taking advantage of eBay fire sales.

I was sick for good week and spent much of my free time at home for the last two. So, I'm way ahead of my version of the Pledge (365 painted for the year). I painted:
10 John Jenkins in 28mm
60 or so GW LOTR miniatures
Started a GW Mumak (nearly done)

I think I'm pretty close to the goal for the year, if not already there.

I have purchased far far far more than I painted, though, but that's intentional. In addition to being a modeller I'm also a collector.

Barks104 Nov 2008 3:36 a.m. PST

Oh, the pain…

Bought: 48
Painted: 6

And now I'm in the red -162 for 2008…

Farstar06 Nov 2008 10:51 a.m. PST

Nothing from the MonkeyHanger household?

Skipper07 Nov 2008 7:10 a.m. PST

OK, I think I may join this pledge. I'll begin this month since I am negative for last month by a lot. (Ordered my amazon and human bloodbowl team).

Hope ya'll dont mind a late entry. I won't be cateloging my back logged lead as I'm way behind on it and some will probably never get finished.

Skipper15 Nov 2008 7:22 p.m. PST

This seems to be working. This month I've ben holding off a purchase until I get a number of figures painted that exceeds the order size. I'm getting close and I really want to order. So far I've gotten through 19 Cowboys (28mm) 13 Shadowforge human football team, and one grizzlybear. If I finish nine more I'll be way ahead for the month and will go ahead and order my indians.

How do I join up? It's almost the end of the year, and I didn't know when you could start.

I've watched 'the pledge' for some time, but never thought of participating. Until now.

I have ammassed such a HUGE number of miniatures over the years. I won't tell you how upset my wife sometimes gets- and I'm sure that everyone here has some sort of SO/family story to tell. Funny thing was how much of this was funded by painting/etc. for others. I've painted enough to make numerous armies. However, very little for myself.

I made a decision to cut back on my purchases until I started painting my own stuff. I even pondered on committing hobbicide at one point (i.e. selling off everything and starting fresh). Instead decided to 'take a rest' for a while (which has now ended up being really much longer than I thought…).

This break was good in a lot of ways. I stayed busy by doing a lot of 'teaching', organizing my thoughts on painting and polished in other ways that has helped my overall painting improve. Most of all, I stopped buying minis (though I still the occasional tool.) I also continued doing the intermittent project for the local shop. Stuff like that.

What do I need to do to join up? Do I submit a plan, and go from there?

As for my crap: Most of what I have is GW- 40K and fantasy, some FoW, a little PP and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff. I have full 2500+ point armies for about 17 different playable forces. Too much. I'd like to turn it all into some playable armies, get rid of stuff and update my armies and do things I haven't had the chance to yet.

Farstar19 Nov 2008 11:49 a.m. PST

You can start any time, but most start on a new year.

To get started, all you need to do is tell us what your specific Pledge is. The traditional Pledge is "paint more than you buy", but there have been other ratios and other purchase limits.

Then, each month, when this topic pops up in the first few days of the new month, tell us, in whatever level of detail you like, how your Pledge fared in the month just passed.

Most people doing this set their Pledge at the beginning of each year. Occasionally a Pledge gets modified mid-year, and people have fallen off the wagon completely as well.

There will likely be an annual wrap-up topic and the beginning of 2009 Pledges around the New Year, but if you feel the need to start a Pledge, don't feel constrained to wait another six weeks.

Sounds great! I'll post something soon.
