Rob Phipps in the UK, a friend of mine from the Croc Games forums, has shamed me by painting a set of my tents before I have! They're done in a winter theme to match his Hyperborean/Wendigo game table:

There are several more pics in the thread where I'm blogging my progress with my "Forge of Ice":

The tents were sculpted by TMP's own resident mad genius of all things prehistoric, Cacique Caribe, and they're cast out of resin by Valiant Enterprises. If you want a set, well, I don't have a store set up yet, but there are ordering details are in the thread linked above.

WOW! I'm not into that genre and I still think they look great.

Hmm. With the tents matching the Wendigo for color scheme, you have to wonder where they got the skins for the tents…

Great! How was the snow effect done on the tents?

Charles Marlow31 Oct 2008 4:10 p.m. PST

They look great!

As I posted yesterday, I have two sets of primitive tents that I purchased from Alxbates and I am thrilled with them.

I have no idea how Rob did the snow effect on the tents, but I can ask him.

Fanstatic work. Me likes!

I am rally looking forward to those tents.

Rob did a nice job with them (and that board).

Regarding the snow effect, Rob says:

I Just use a bit of PVA wood glue on the bits I wanted covered in snow, then used a white flock, then another coat of PVA and then Bicarbonate of Soda for the snow effect. You get a nice brilliant crisp white from it.

You don't have to use a white flock underneath but it stops any colour from the tent from showing through if your PVA is too thin.

And that's how he does it!

Alex:

I mentioned the tents on my blog. They are great. I also swiped a few pictures of them from your blog. Hope that's okay? I gave credit for the paint job.
