I know similar subjects have been asked before on TMP, but that seemed to be over a year ago, and none of the answers seemed to be complete, so i thought I'd ask again… see if anything has changed.

I've been re-reading ABC Warriors and Nemesis the Warlock books from 2000AD and have decided to model/paint up some figures to represent the warriors.

For those of you who don't know what I mean, then have a look…

THE ORIGINAL LINE UP
====================
Foundry are the only company I know to make ABC warriors members.

Hammerstein picture
Deadlock picture
Blackblood picture
Joe Pineapples picture

But they don't produce Mongrol or Happy Shrapnel figures. So I'm looking for substitutes.

I thought this might pass for mongrol with a bit of work – link – what do you think?

I'm drawing a blank on a cybernetic old timer cowboy figure for happy shrpnel though – any ideas?

I'd also like to represent The Mess link In his vaccuum canister thats an easy modelling /painting challenge, but out of his canister i image a seething mass of liquid metal,, armoured tentacles and 'snake chain-lie' arms… anyone know of kit bits is could bash to create something here?

LATER LINE UP
=============
Mek Quake, Ro-Jaws and Morrigan all come from the Foundry range.

Any suggestions on where to get

Original Steelhorn … link
Hitaki … link
Mad Ronn … link

Terri should be easy to find, she's just a chick with a gun!

All suggestions, welcome.

Back when the (awful) movie came out, there was a line of toys that included ABC type warriors. I think I have some at home, though I would be hard pressed to come up with them at the moment.

Brandlin27 Oct 2008 1:43 p.m. PST

By "the awful movie" do you mean the 1995 judge dredd one? It only had hammerstein in the movie so i'm not sure it would help, however if oyu know better, then please show me…!

For cybernetic cowboys try looking at the shockforce warehouse under deadtech.

Norman D Landings27 Oct 2008 2:06 p.m. PST

DemonBlade brought out a Cybernetic/undead cowboy squad for GWAR's 'Shockforce' sci-fi skirmish game.
Happy Shrapnel sounds like he might fit right in with that lot.

The set is called 'The Guns of Sundance'.

DemonBlade is long since out of business, but if you can find a pic. on the net anywhere, let me know if they'll fit the bill, 'cause I've got a bunch of them, and you're welcome to have one if it's what you're looking for.

This is a subject close to my own heart – personally I just wish Foundry would release a Mongrol, because no ABC Warriors line-up is complete without him. Apparently work was started on a Foundry sculpt but for some reason it was never finished.

I've got that Alpha Forge wardroid and although stylistically it could make a good basis for Mongrol, it's way too big – even taking into consideration the fact that he got bigger/more apish as time went by and art styles changed. Mongrol shouldn't dwarf Mek-quake! grin

Can't really help with your other requests I'm afraid. I'm personally not that bothered about those characters and so haven't given them much thought, I just want my Mongrol! Are you sure you need a miniature to represent the Mess unleashed though? In game terms, I would just see him as an area effect.

The only other thing I would add is that Foundry also makes a Nemesis and Torquemada, which I'm sure you already know but they deserve a mention.

Parmenion28 Oct 2008 3:08 a.m. PST

Question – do you use Foundry's big Hammerstein or small Hammerstein? By the photo you've linked to I would guess the small one. The small one is more in scale with the other warriors but the big one is a much nicer sculpt, which is a pity.

Brandlin28 Oct 2008 5:21 a.m. PST

Parmenion – I have both Hammersteins. I'm planning on displaying the smaller hammerstein. I'm collecting/painting for display at the moment, so not bothered about in game effect, although i'm sure they'll get trotted out at some point.

I didn't get the Nemesis and Torquemada figures – i think they look very poor/static.

I've not seen the Alphaforge thing alongside figures for scale so I'm not sure about size. For the original team i quite like the idea of him dwarfing the others though so thats ok by me. It needs shorter legs, a bulked out 'tubby' body and a face but other than that its a good conversion starting point.

I never liked Mek-Quake (or Ro-JAws for that matter – i didn't like the poor comedy), and am thoroughly underwhelmed by the foundry figure i've bought. So, I may use bits of the foundry figure to build a proper 'vehicle style' mek quake from plasticard at some point.

I'm not as interested in the later characters either, but i thought i'd look, just for completeness.

If you ever find other suitable miniatures then please drop me a line and let me know?

Chuck05 & Norma D Landings – Thanks for the suggestions. I've turned up a total blank on the internet looking for the deadlands / shockforce images. There is an ebay site selling figures and books from the shockforce range but nothing from deadtech!

Do either of you have any pictures?

I am VERY interested in getting a cybernetic cowboy figure. Any help appreciated.

thanks guys

Brandlin – agreed that the Nemesis and Torquemada figures aren't great. I've got the Nemesis, which is okay, but the Torquemada looks pretty bad so I didn't bother with him. Neither is much better than the Heroclix versions (arguably worse). I only mentioned them for the sake of completeness.

If I was to model the Mess, I would probably just make a suitably chaotic wire armature and use a lot of modelling putty. It doesn't seem like the kind of project that would require component parts as such, just a lot of wild, fluid shapes.

That's a good idea about using the Mek-Quake mini as a basis for building his tank body. Foundry's running a 2000AD sale right now, I might buy a second Mek-Quake and follow your lead.

As for the Alpha Forge figure – even bearing in mind what you've said, I still think you may find it too big for your purposes. It's a massive kit. If I get a chance I'll try to take a photo of the components next to the Foundry minis and email it to you.

dick garrison28 Oct 2008 7:51 a.m. PST

If I recall correctly GW used to do a chaos warrior riding a big pig type thing in the nineties (can't remember what it was called sorry) that had a selection of heads one of which was a dead ringer for Mongrol though it would be big.

But if you were to use the alpha forge robot as a base it would probably be about the right size now if someone can remeber what it was called and if GW or someone can supply you with one then great. I too remeber the part green on Foundry's site, whatever happened to that?

We want a Mongrol. LARAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Parmenion28 Oct 2008 2:13 p.m. PST

Brandlin – I've sent you an email with that comparison photo.

Brandlin28 Oct 2008 2:32 p.m. PST

Wow Parmenion – Thanks for the email. I see what you mean about the size difference…

I'm inclined to give it a go anyway. I do like the alphaforge model so its no great loss if I can't make it work.

Thanks again for the help.

Progress shots will eventually be on my blog… but i am galcially slow…

I'll be watching this thread to see what everyone comes up with. This is one of my long-fermenting projects, too.

Noble Knight has the Guns of Sundance set for sale, but no photos: link

Best of luck with the Alpha Forge model, Brandlin. I've been thinking about sculpting my own Mongrol from scratch, but I've a feeling it would turn out woefully bad.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, here's the incomplete green of Foundry's Mongrol:

Great looking model, such a pity it was never finished!

dick garrison29 Oct 2008 2:57 p.m. PST

Perhaps we should all write to Foundry and ask them to bring out the mongrol fig!!

Parmenion30 Oct 2008 2:23 a.m. PST

I don't think the sculptor still works for them… I could be wrong, I'm not an expert on the comings and goings at Foundry.

Brandlin30 Oct 2008 3:41 a.m. PST

an email of twelve wouldn't hurt though! thanks for the picture Parmenion

Hi – late to the party – as usual ! The classic ABC line-up isn't complete without Mongrol, and I can't fathom why Foundry haven't produced one yet ( same with the Dark Judges -- no Judge Fear ? ).

Would be great to have a 'Mess' vial to add to the figure as an optional extra.

A wild 'Mess' figure would also be great -- plus the original Steelhorn to go with.

I know -- I don't want much, huh ?
