Hi guys, These rules are different in that we play large battles, I generally play with four corps of 6mm french with corps of light and heavy cavalry thrown in. The Russian can put five corps and the Prussian player three, so its grand tactical all over. Each stand is a brigade of two to three five btlns, but that depends on the national armies, ie Bavarian 2 btlns -1 to die, french 5 btlns +2 etc. |

Thanks to the many who have volunteered to test pal these rules, 20 offers isn't bad. lets hope there is to many it would better ifs. remember guys it speed and movements were after and please forget the battalion thinking your minumum unit is the brigade when detatched and devision in columns. Again thanks guys |

I was a for more information so here it is. Each Brigade has 2 stands of 80mm by 40mm with as many 6mm figures as you want to put on (I put three btlns of 24 figure) in lines columns, dense column etc; The ground scale is 1" = 100 yards Time is ten minutes a turn. We use pip dice for Aides and orders using 2 x d6. Feed back on what you'd like to see in a set of rules could be added also, I had a bit of trouble factoring in French Columns but we seem to have hit on the right formula there. Thanks guys |

The first question that comes to mind, even without seeing the rules, is why you are worrying about factoring in "French Columns" when the level of abstraction is high enough to represent a brigade with two stands? You might have a trees-and-forest thing going on there. From your comments above, I'm guessing that the brigades are abstracted on the table as 2 stands to represent shallow versus deep deployment, but that there are modifiers for actual strength ("Bavarian 2 btlns -1 to die, french 5 btlns +2 etc") – is that right? Cheers, Christopher |

Hi CATenWolde, Chris you are spot on, add or take away depending on the national characteristics, only Britsh line can hold fire, other nations must fire at different ranges. If you play Spanish you have to volley at long range, because they did, the French and others at less. I mentioned columns as seeing a divisional column looks really good on the game top and a Corps column even more impressive. Last time I played the Bavarian player even said he felt intimidated byt he shear size and said "How they hell am I going to stop that". we have another game on Thursday when I'm goingto let loose my cavalry earlier than normal, I wonder what his comments will be then. I hope to knock off his Cheval Legere with my cuirrasiers and then intimdate his lines with light, so he goes into squrea and then unleash my horse artillery and libne artillery at him. All in good taste obviousley. And these games are normally 25 turns over two half hours and we have fun, which was missing fro a while at our club. Martin |
