Very neat colour scheme – I have those figs, painted without much imagination in double-blue – yours look much nicer |

A new, very good-looking -as always in Kopf-Schlager- regiment, and titillating hints of several other uniforms: thanks for sharing! The implied difference between 'House and 'State' regiments is intringuing: looking forward to learn more! Cheers, Jean-Louis aka Louys de Monte-Cristo link |

Your (Pro)Eminency, I follow with the greatest interest the development of your Great Pangaean Campaign: link While Kopf-Schlager plays more or less the part of Austria, its army uses original (& very pleasant) uniforms and flags. Will the other Imagi-Nation rulers of Pangea show the same creativity? Cheers, Jean-Louis aka Louys de Monte-Cristo link |
Cardinal Hawkwood | 04 Nov 2008 4:17 p.m. PST |
probably not to the same degree, if at all..most are existing forces and people here aren't as out there as me..one of the reasons for painting them, apart from the fun of it all, was as Umpire I will be playing a number of battles by proxy so a good generic army is a must , and did I say I enjoy it.. more pics this week.. |

Votre Eminence, may I warmly second Andygamer's suggestion: «Once you get all of the back-stories and national idiosyncrasies (both player and GM generated) written up, Cardinal Biggles, you should publish them in one document called L'Encyclopédie edited by Denis Diderot of the Académie Nouvelle-Champenoise. This would allow players (and lurkers) to access background information on the regions and states of the Pangaean world more easily.» A faithful lurker PS : Andygamer, what about a blog? |

trailape | 07 Dec 2008 1:07 p.m. PST |
Hi Are these painted as an "imaginary" nation or Historically? I suspect painting and entire army in "Imaginary" uniform would be a lot of fun, and allow the "artist within" to really come into play. Must have been something akin to what Murat experienced with his Naples army |
trailape | 07 Dec 2008 1:11 p.m. PST |
I know Dal. We served in the same Regiment for several years. Nice guy. Small world, I bumped into him on Saturday at Eureka Miniatures, (who'd a guessed)! It was Dal's rules "Spear and Shield" that got me back into Ancients years (and years) ago. |
andygamer | 07 Dec 2008 5:03 p.m. PST |
Yes, trailape, they are from an imaginary "Imagi-Nation". There are a bunch of (mainly 18th Century) ones listed here: emperor-elector.blogspot.com If you're interested, check out the links on the right-hand side of the page. Even the ones that haven't been updated in a long time (like for a year) often have interesting items to read. |

Well, I'm inspired! Looks like I've got a reason to purchase some Sash and Saber 7YW figs, Perry AWI and Eureka "Age Of Reason" Miniatures. Have I told you of this little known Rebellious Colony in Canada,
..? |

Have I told you of this little known Rebellious Colony in Canada
? Is it called Nottalaw (on the Nottalaw River)? Or Nunowit. |

trailape welcome to the Dark Side! But be warned: it can be addictive
And when you create not only an imaginary army but a whole Imagi-Nation, with its geograohy, economics, history, the ruling line genealogy and plotting rivals & cousins, the Queen's favorites, the Court schemes, the rivalry between secular and spiritual powers
the whole often gains a life of its own, like a Frankeinstein's monster! You'll be
worried to 'discover' developments without remenbering to have consciously 'written' them! And your 'brainchild' turns to a 'cristallization nucleus', totally unrelated readings, viewings, memories
'aggregate' around it and are absorbed, 'digested' to become part of (an enriched) it. Jean-Louis link |
Cardinal Hawkwood | 09 Dec 2008 7:05 p.m. PST |
you should try a whole world! I am.. I find the trick is not to dot hem in silly uniforms , you tire of the lime green and fushia facings after a while..(very quickly) |
trailape | 10 Dec 2008 6:14 a.m. PST |
Hi Guys Yes I can see that it could become ALL CONSUMING. It's already started. I'm looking at building a (starting small) Kingdom in Canada, with it's genesis based on a break away group of Pilgrims that came to the New World to escape religious persecution. Anyway, it'll all come together eventually. I've placed big orders with PERRY, EUREKA and OLD GLORY to start building the army. |

trailape: Huzzah! Please keep us informed (hints: pics, pics, pics, blog, blog, blog
[and there is always someone to add: beer, beer! beer!]) Most recent exemple (to-day!): ost-pommern.blogspot.com David's free SYW uniform templates nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com soon become addictive: link Mid 18th C. North America is indeed full of potential: link Cardinal Hawkwood: "you tire of the lime green and fushia facings after a while..(very quickly)": of course, they are so *boringly* historical: several French Napoleonic regiments of Dragons, Chasseurs à Cheval and Chevau-Legers were in green with pink facings (mind you, their trumpeters wore reversed coats
). Seriously (?): link

abdul ..perhaps but when that is all you have it is tiresome, and French dragoons are not lime green, I have a lilac faced unit but only the one.. |
trailape | 11 Dec 2008 4:35 a.m. PST |
Hi Guys My project grows. I'll have a blog up in a few days. I'll need to find out what the "protocols" are in regards to "feeding" of another imagi-Nation. Though my story will start in "The New World" it will spread to "The Great Southern Land" Having seen Dal's "Neue Sudland", my "ruling family" plans to carve out a "not so small" Kingdom on the East Coast. The Holy Kingdom Of New Wales, (with the Grand Duchy of Van Demond's Land as a satellite state). I'm not sure how Dal will feel about having a Monarchy as a neighbor? But it will give the people of Neue Sudland someone to play football with. Failing that we might move to the land of the "Long Grey Cloud" (populated by "hobbits" and "Bros" apparently). |
abdul666lw | 11 Dec 2008 8:51 a.m. PST |
As long as you don't meet Elves
Waiting for the blog! Nasturtium and jonquil are historical (French) facing colors, so it would not be blasphemous to have lilac, or even lavander facings! Not to mention that the Streltzi had strawberry, raspberry and blackcurrant coats
Cheers, Jean-Louis |

Fictitious uniforms: I talk, I talk (too much?), but actually when Prinz Geoffrey of Cavenderia asked for uniform suggestions link my two entries IR5 Aurora link and IR7 Graf Carl Gustav link were, I think, quite 'reasonable' and 'justified' by regimental histories submitted in comments to previous posts link link A tolerable, not a too 'unrestricted' approach? |
Dal Gavan | 12 Dec 2008 5:55 p.m. PST |
G'day. Scotty, I've padded out the details of RNS and added a little bit of "history" to recognise the existence of The Holy Kingdom. Methinks the nations may do more than play football. Jean-Louis, hopefully the new details may answer some of your questions about the ethnic makeup of the nation. Cheers. Dal. |

trailape, and an excellent start, full of character(s) and promises, and of the best ‘Old School Wargaming Lace Wars Fiction' ‘tongue in the cheek' tone! Dal, I greatly enjoyed your additional background. It's fascinating to discover such cultural similarities between antipodial countries of such different origins; specially Monte-Cristo would claim first rank as for causing the «horror of thecivilised world»!
Unfortunately there is very little hope that David of Tippelbruder will publish an appropriate uniform template for the 3rd "Townsville" Regiment of Foot – you'll have to resort to minis. Fortunately Eureka link is offering suitable ones link (though I don't find them on their site?). Being both a tiny staelet and officially demilitarized, Monte-Cristo cannot field such an interesting unit. Yet the general levy of the population (nov. 30 comment to link ) would field many ‘Pirette's types! Both of you, now I'll have the pleasur to update the library of 'Fict' links and the 'Current Oversea situation' post on the Monte-Cristan Gazette.
Cheers, Jean-Louis |

While their antipodial location prevents the Holy Mormoan Kingdom Of New Wales and the Republic of Neues Sudland to be active members of the European 'Emperor vs Elector' campaign, distance would not prevent them to join this merry League of Nations to take part in the exchange of diplomatic missives, flashnews, pictures and spicy anecdotes! emperor-elector.blogspot.com |
