I have been contemplating this, and I'm still not sure it's a good idea, so I will just toss it out for comments: In a recent thread, various TMPers talked about what they DON'T like to paint. Some disliked horses, some artillery, etc. So I thought: what if people painted these things for each other? For instance, I don't really enjoy painting at all; my eyes are getting old; but I'd much rather paint horses than men. So I thought: what if I paint horses for people who don't like painting horses if they'd paint my infantry for me? One problem I can see right away is that of different levels of skill; also different styles. Another is the cost of mailing the figures back and forth. So, what do you think? Would it work? Would you participate? |

I think this would work between a very few people. So if you had a buddy locally or even not locally it might work. But as far as just a dealing thing across the internet with peopel you don't really know well I think it wouldn't work that well. But that is just me, it might work a treat. |

The problem here is that I would probably do a better job for you than myself (I have a history of this kind of behavior). This takes me way longer than I usually spend on my stuff. I will do a few figs to repay a favor from time to time but to be obligated???? One of my projects I just finished took me two years to get done. Should have been done in two months max. Trouble is, I have a job, a wife, kids, etc. This stuff all comes first. You willing to get your stuff two years out -- a very unreasonable two years at that? Nope. And I don't want to have that obligation hanging around for two years either. Now frankly, I think I'm typical. If somehow you talked me into to doing some serious painting for you I would enter the matter with the utmost good faith. Then I would fail because I cannot justify painting figs when someone else is willing to pay me $400.00 USD an hour to do a rush job + one of my kids needs another 20K for college. Nothing personal but there's a time and a place for everything and a hobby is just that. A hobby. mjc |

In my case it might be a plus to be painting for someone else. As I said above, I don't enjoy painting anymore (just enjoy having the finished product), so I usually put it off until just the right time. But if I knew someone was waiting, I'd be more inclined to sit down and do it. Of course, I'm retired, so I don't have many "more important" things to do, like some of you who (pardon the 4-letter word) "work." Ah, well. It was just an idea. |

The thought has crossed my mind, and yes she does, but the sister is probably a bit young for most around here. Cheers, The Bandit |
