It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

The Sunday edition of "Foxtrot" takes on the issue of proxy figures.

How long before the GW IP lawyers come to my house and pull my comics?

First LOL in a few days…

I´m surprised the Syndicate let him use the Warhammer name. Not that GW would protest (name dropping is always good) but some newspapers might not like the use of brand names. Still cool to see our hobby represented in this strip. I wonder how many readers won´t get the reference though.

I too wonder how many readers won't get the joke.

NB: I can tell a lot about what game they are playing, and guarantee it isn't Tunnels&Trolls, but the initials rhyme.

Foxtrot is a brillant strip and the creator Bill Amed often parodies popular culture in particular Star Wars. While many might not get the Warhammer reference most readers will at least be aware of role play games and what a balrog is suppose to be. And btw there will not be any IP issues as the comicstrip would fall under the rules that allow for parody of otherwise copy writen material. I predict that this comic will find its way framed or tacked up onto many a wargame room and game store wall.

"It's from another game ! You can't use miniatures from another game !"

Sounds like successful GW indoctrination.

I don't get that at all! Warhammer is a product. Surely, one can mention products without fear of reprisal or accusations of free advertising -- e.g., Monopoly, other popular games. Wouldn't the branding be "Games Workshop" or "the Games Workshop Hobby"?

nevals12 Oct 2008 8:11 a.m. PST

On the radio ,they do not want to mention the names of other radio stations;they just say :'on the other radio station.."Same for tv channels, newspapers, even for brands, companies that have no connection with media or entertainment. It is like they say;"Hey,we are not going to advertise for free!"

Jamesonsafari12 Oct 2008 10:55 a.m. PST

Yes, and that's why GW doesn't mention other miniature gaming products in their publications.

But that's not the point here.

Funny strip.

Heh heh heh.

Score another hit for Bill Amend. Though really, he's recycling jokes used years ago on "Turn Signals on a Land Raider".

Still funny.

The best part is this. Somewhere right now a kid (hopefully several) has just read that comic and is looking through Goggle hits finding out about this thing called "Warhammer" and gaming. This Christmas under the tree there will be something from a game store. He (or she) will be hooked, and there will be one more of us. They may stick with it, or they my give it up in a few years, but for at least that period of time, they will have a good time. The hobby will grow just a little bit stronger.

Doc out

Like others, I laughed out loud when I read it. As a historical gamer, I could see a "that isn't the right lace" color nit picker making a similar comment. My son (both historical and D&D) also laughed. And even my non-wargaming wife thought it was funny and very true in some cases.

Damn figure Nazis! Don't know how many times I've used subs. Amend's strips always make me laugh. S.O. handed it to me first thing when I got in from Ren. Faire last night. She may not game, but she knows gaming references when she sees them.

The Sentient Bean13 Oct 2008 3:34 p.m. PST

I liked it!

A good dungeonmaster would have ignored the whinge-ing and simply started rolling attacks for the Bloodletter/Balrog, delivering damage to the Dwarf.

Funny strip, I agree.
