link The plastics were cannibalized for their parts. Arms were posed by using nippers cut through them partially, and then bending gently. Hands were opened by squeezing open using pliers. If a suitable arm couldn't be found, they were sculpted. The weapons are from my sf bitz line, found here: 3d-miniatures.com These guys are now ready to fight Martians or Space Zulus. |

Nice job; as a man with a Praetorian 40K army I go for that kind of thing. Would love to see them primed or painted; the figures look rather "mushy" but from another thread it seems that may simply be down to the bare plastic's appearance and they look better once they've got some paint on them? |

Well, I wasn't planning to share this untill I had some more finished, but here you go
picture picture Meanwhile, I have changed the colour of the shoulder pads to the facing colour of the unit; looks better. I hope to have more by the end of the week, put some comparison figs on my site and post here again. Rudi |

Thanks Rudi – yep, they definitely do look much better defined with a lick of paint on them, thanks. Looks like they're going to be doing wonders for the VSF community too

Agree with Dom completely. They look great painted. Also, they appear to have very expressive faces, that you don't get with the gray plastic. |

Nice work, Crusoe and Rudi. |

Those are nice. I can't wait to get my hands on my bits box again so that I can have a go at making some Praetorians with my WF brits. |

Crusoe, excellent work! Where did you get the shoulder pads? |
Crusoe the Painter | 08 Oct 2008 7:38 a.m. PST |
Me? I have no shoulder pads. Rudy is just using the heads on Plastic Cadian bodies. I'll get mine primed shortly. |

Thx for the comments, guys! To Croese et all: Nope, I'm not just using the heads only. This is how it was done: This figure is WF standard body and head. The shoulder strap bits have been cut short to come level with the area the GW arms have to be glued on. Both arms used are from a GW Cadian sprue and have just been hollowed out a bit with a round file (the type used by modellers around the globe). I specifically have chosen for a position of the arms that didn't need any filling with putty, so it's just: - cut the shoulder straps level with the body - file out the GW arms - glue together & paint A "combiversion", something any wargamer should be able to master
Also, as can be observed from the unpainted conversions in the first posting, the plastic appears to be rather shiny, which doesn't give the sculpt full credit. I understand WF is working on a less shiny plastic for production. Rudi |

I plan to use the ones with "cadian arms" in SF games, but combine them (as "élite") with figures straight from the box (line infantry) for VSF games. If you happen to have a bag of plastic Warzones around as well (just use the spare heads on the WF sprues), you can build a (V)SF army of several hundred figures for a fraction of the cost OOP GW Praetorians go for on Ebay (believe me, I've been buying some around 9 months ago, but since then prices have gone up to around £3/figure; if you're lucky, that is
). The WF sprues also contain "empty" left & right arms/hands, great for artillery crew and others that don't require weapons. I just hope WF will continue along this line after the Zulus have been released

Your work is gorgeous but I was going to say that wouldn't be a lot easier just to use GW Praetorians but then someone noted that they run about 3 pounds sterling a figure. I just started selling off my unpainted GW Praetorian army and it appears I'm selling them way too cheap. But if anyone from the Miniatures Page could use some I will sell what I have (at a lot less then 6 pounds each) Randy Rdfraf@aol.com |

<:) Should I make some? :D |

no, they don't have that technology, they have chainknobberies. |

Those are so cool! When are these figs going to be in stores? I missed the pretorian figs more or less but it would be so osm to do an army of them. |

If anyone is interested, I have a bunch of unpainted, unbased GW pretorians for sale. Please look here: TMP link I appreiciate your consideration |
