I've started building insanely cheap and easy fences. They are pretty standard corral or livestock fences that would work for many parts of the world during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Well done, and this coming from someone nearly as cheap as you.

Nicesly done.

Very nice. I'll have to try that out.

Very nice. I would make some fences with three rails as well for even more variety. BTW craft stores sell "matchsticks" without the matches on the end. Makes life even easier! Cost is $1 USD a pack. Staining the wood a light grey will speed it even faster and make it look real.

Thanks for this. I will try it and get back to you.

If you want to make split rail fences, either stockade or worm style, try hacking down a lot of a buddleia (butterfly) bush stems. They are straight and just the right size for 15 or even 25mm scenery. You can stain them with brown/grey. Make the stockade type lying on its side on a hard surface and white glue them. Tell the wife (its true) that they need to be severely cut back each year, since the blooms are on new wood.

They look nice. I also make fences with matches, I am so tight that I have to wait until I have used the match first so it takes a while.

I saved some effort, although used more matches, by not cutting the horizontals to make it work I used a vertical on each side and a smallish length between the horizontals. They are indeed very strong and look nice with my troops behind them.

I also like the idea of the light grey stain.

It's true . . . the grey stain really does work, and it's very fast and very easy.

These rails are not matches (they're bamboo skewers, split lengthwise with an Xacto knife), but it should work the same.
