I would like to do small Unit action. 1=1 and 20 to 40 figs a player. We usualy have 4 to 7 players present. Our main table in 7'by 13' and I am prepareing the 4x8 standard for the home table. We have the usual types of players; A rules colector who once belonged to the naval war colledge( But He dont paint) A rules Lawyer who belives that the Indians were the end all to be all( Super Ninjas) in this conflict. A rules negotiator who just wants to make it thru the game with out anyones feelings hurt. A guy who if he ever found out there were rules would be surprised. A feller who paints but never what were playin, and only wants to talk about what ever he painted. A guy who is sure he's just one sucidal charge from victory. And Me a control freak who usualy paints all the armies and makes all the scenery "cause I can and Mines better" And I dont care what rules as long as there are some. So I am sure you all have your favs. But what has some sort tables or charts for player 1. Has special rules for them pesky Injuns for player 2. Has some bendability so player 3 can make peace in the middle of the war. Froget number 4 I dont wanna send him in to shock. Ah..the heck with 5 as well hell bring Zulus any way. and it should be fast playin for #6 so he can die in hail of lead Early on(probley spit down the barrels of my Rangers). Thanx The Nomad |

I am going to try and use Sharpe Practice. Along with Sash and Saber's 40mm figs. I saw Bob Moon put on a FIW game at Southern Front last year and got hooked. |

This Very Ground seems to the one the skirmish guys in our group use most often |

The skirmish rules listed will all probably have some issues with 200+ figs on the tabletop. However, This Very Ground is a very good skirmish set. Thanks, John |

Sharp Practice is a Napoleonic game but I've used it for French & Indian with 30-40 figures per side. It will handle about 100 figures per side. There are rules for Indians. They are pretty tough, though they have problems too. |

"This Very Ground" gives a great feel for the period. Our club has used them extensively and you pick them up quickly and so far no blood has been spilt nit picking over minutiae. Any minor disputes can be resolved at the Iron Ivan forum where the authors are more than helpful with clarifications. |

Hi This comes up every few months, and I wonder if Bill ought not to just do a section so that we don't keep repeating. I game my own rules. But I always recommend "Habitats and Highlanders" from the Canadian Wargame Group. As canadians I don't think they have a pro-american or anti-indian bias. But the good part is that these are "one stop shopping". They have a system for skirmish, mid level and army level fighting using the same figs, a campaign system with maps, scenarios with maps, and a short history and painting guide. One set of rules, that, if you are only casually interested, gives you everything. LATER, you can diddle with the rules. R |

A quick survey of the Historicon program seems to indicate a favoritism for either Sword and the Flame F&I or Brother Against Brother. |

Thanx This very Ground and Sharpe Practice sounds like the way to go. I remember seeing Habtants & Highlanders a long time ago and Brother against Brother Is in the colectors bunch of stuff we lookat it but not very hard maybe we will take another look. Drums along the Mohawk I hhve not herd of but the Movie was probley the thing that got me hot for this period I saw it as a kid. Gary Cooper Faceing off against The evil Guyasuka Played by Boris Carloff. and Iron Eyes Cody "the only indian with a correct hairstyle" Long befor he stood on the side of the road and cryed. Wow theres some memories. Orion |

Read a lot about the period, the armies and the tactics. Then write your own rules. It will give more satisfaction and you can mould them to the type of game you want to achieve, while maintaining the realism required. It works for me! Mind you, there are some good rules out there as mentioned above. |

If you want rules that are easy to pickup and play quickly, then look at Brother Against Brother. I have uswed them at Origins before because they are so easy to play. I had Rogers Rangers fleeing from the Abanaki raid with Indains in pursuit. Also I think the movie your talking about is Unconquered. Henry Fonda and and Claudette Colbert are in Drums Along the Mohawk. |
