Hi,

I would like to know if anyone produces racing boat miniatures?

I'm interested in running some hydroplane racing games, and maybe even daring to try offshore racing too. Yes, I know both can be quite dangerous, and expensive, which is why I'm looking for miniatures to race with instead. My racing team budget is rather limited currently.

I've purchased a few of the Hot Wheels hydro-boats, but would like to know if anyone does them in a smaller scale?

Ideally, since the hydroplane boats generally run about 24' – 28' long, 1/100th – 1/150th scale would be ideal. Boats in the 1" – 3" long range would be great.

Supposedly, the Hot Wheels boats are 1/64th scale, but I don't think that is correct, since I imagine they are just a few inches long, as opposed to 5", or more long. More likely 1/87th scale I would guess.

Any ideas for other sources, especially the off-shore boat models? Since they are longer, I imagine 1/144th – 1/300th scale would be better for them.

Thanks,

Rob

Ooh, anyone got rules for running down drug-smugglers?

Rob,

You may want to look at the following Blog posts about hydroplane boats.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the links. I hadn't seen those photos before.

I also appreciate your sending me the earlier version of the rules. I would be interested in the new, revised set as well.

As someone asked on the blog, will you be selling them anytime soon?

I tried contacting your friend to see if I could purchase some of the minis awhile back, but never heard back from him.

I am very interested in purchasing some of those too, if they are available for sale, since they look great, and I need some minis for the races. I just don't have the time to sculpt any, so will probably use the Hot Wheels boats in the interim.

What scale are they?

Best regards,

Rob

Rob,

The boats are aroun 1/100 scale. I'll see if I can find out some more information on the boats for you.

Dave,

The models look great! Do have any plans to make the rules available? Or a source for the models? ('Cuz I'll rip out my pockets getting to the money to buy 'em!) Got hooked on the unlimiteds when my dad took me to the first race down here in San Diego back in 1964 and have been to almost ever race since, including the one just this last weekend.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your assistance.

Sounds good. I really appreciate it.

I was planning on using 4-sided dice for the corner markers, but will probably need to shell out for some of those nice racing buoys too.

Reminds me of my sailing days on SF Bay.

Best regards,

Rob

Coastal,

Drop me an e-mail (see the address below) and I can see about getting you a copy of the rules we are currently using for racing and talk about the models.

I'm going to be out of town this weekend, so don't worry if you don't hear back from me right away.
