Anyone want to throw some opnions out there on who makes the best 15mm Arabs (7th thru 11th centuries). Looking for figures suitable for armies of Muhammad & early caliphs.I am not a big fan of Essex. From a previous post of mine, Old Glory looks to be decent. What else is out there? Thanks!

Have you tried Museum Miniatures? I prefer the Essex and Old Glory cavalry though.

Much is about personal tastes and price per casting.

My first Arab army rasied over a decade ago was Musum. i liked the poses and the single cast cavalry. Today they would be expensive in the USa as would several of the imported UK ranges.

For average USA costs and variety, the Old Glory 15mm have an extensive range including three ranges (SC, AC, AA) the overall number of castings options is very impressive.

Khurasan is making a name for themselves with excellant sculpts.

Definatley get some Outpost Bedouin cavalry wonderful figures but only two poses. Their Syrian Cavalry will do do OK as heavier Arab cavalry. There are pictures on their website.

Thanks for the input. Price isn't much of an issue, if I like it, I'll buy it. How are Irregular? Who else makes Arabs suitable for the period? Who makes the best camelry? As for preference, I don't like stiff, single pose ranges, I don't mind sculpting to be anatomically incorrect but at least have some flavor. Thanks!

I would have said Essex ;-)

I have just finished an OG15 Arab army and used figures from across their range. I brought a few from other vendors but usually the figures were no better and normally inferior. Add in the fact OG15 is usually much better its a no brainer for me.

I like the Irregular figures, true 15mm but with a wide variety of shields and weapons within each code number.

Definitely Outpost IMO – certainly do the best ghilman for the later end of the period you are looking at.

They don't specifically do camelry – these not really being a feature of these armies despite popular opinon – you can do nice ones if you ask Outpost for bedouin, etc. riders and the camle they have (IIRC) as part of their command pack. They match up quite well although the camel is large :-)

Outpost! Nasty… mutants on giant greyhounds…. Go with Essex.

My Arabs span the time period you are looking at – and are a mix of Museum, Irregular, Old Glory and Essex.

Museum – some very nice infantry figures in the range, but single poses only and some are a little oversized compared to others even in the same range. The Museum Arab cavalry are a lot nicer than many of their Ancient cavalry.
Irregular – a bit rough, but plenty of character and variation in each catalogue code. As Nick Robson pointed out, they are true 15s. The cavalry mix quite well with other makes (my heavy cavalry are mostly Irregular with a sprinkling of Essex and Museum officers etc) but the infantry are noticeably smaller than the other makes listed.
Essex – my figures are all from their Crusades range – very nice figures. Quite a bit of variation in poses and equipment.
Old Glory – I only have infantry and couldn't tell you what range they are from, but definitely no complaints. A fair bit of variation, nice detail, and a price that is pretty hard to beat.

Cheers,
Paul.

I built an army by mixing Museum, Essex & Old Glory. People tend to love or hate Outpost figures. IMO they don't mix well with most other ranges.
