Hi guys,

I am currently working on the make-up and organization of the Danish Army of the Napoleonic wars, I was wondering if anyone else had already done research on them. The Regiment organizations, break downs of each company within each Regiment of the Guard, Line, Light and Leib regiments and so on. Basically I am pretty much after everything I can get my hands on.

Yes, I already have the link to the Histofig site etc…but it does not give any information on the Life Guard nor the Leib Grenadier regiments etc and is pretty vague on many aspects of this army.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Shane

Shane – what figures are you going to be using and in what scale?

Defiant17 Sep 2008 8:00 a.m. PST

G'day mate, not sure as of yet, working on building my own data on the army first to complete my research on its make-up.

My scale is 15mm, wonder if others have made up Danish armies and have photos to share ?

A nice article on the Danish Napoleonic army was released in a 1970s-80s magazine called 'Little Wars'. Good basic stats with a color plate.

My Danish army was 15mm Minidfig/GFI. I loved the unique Grenadier cap.

If you have any specific questions, I will be happy to answer (I“m from Denmark)

Not much to pick from in 15mm for Danes at the moment. Most of the manufacturers out there are not compatible with other lines.

The best spot of encouragement I saw was the 18mm Danish infantry and command 1813 on the Eureka 300 list. I think it's been at 500+ now for about 3 years…

Defiant18 Sep 2008 4:04 a.m. PST

thx Sparta, I will probably take you up on that, actually, I will take you up on that right now…

The Danish army had two Leib Regiments and the Life or Guard regiment, do you know the actual battalion break down of those regiments as in how many companies in each btln and company strengths (on paper) and what were they? same as the normal Line ?

Normal Line regiment :

1st Battalion
1 x Grenadier Company
4 x Musketeer Companies
1 x Marksman Platoon

2nd Batalion
1 x Jager Company
4 x Musketeer Companies
1 x Marksman Platoon

Any help would be appreciated,

Regards,
Shane

Condottiere – thanks for the link

Issue #16 looks helpful.

Anywhere in the US I can pick this up?

Hi Shane, sorry for the delay, been away for a few days.

You should paint the army in 1813, preferably the auxillary corps that was with Davoust in 1813. this is the only force that saw any real field action, and it is a beatifull varied all arms corps. As Nikola linked the Livgarden was only 4 comps – and it didn“t see any real field action. The Reg.s in 1813 had a first btn with 4 x nusketter + 1 gren comp. the remaining three btn.s had 4 x musketter + 1 light comp. The army had several jęger/sharpshooter corps often used as individual comps much like the british rifles in spain.

Sehested 1813 is a brilliant battle to play, just the right size for most wargaming systems pitting the Danish auxillary corps against Walmodens mixed corps of british, KGL, russo geman legions and some independent german trrops. The terrain is also interesting for it“s mixture of swamp towns and lots and lots of hedgerows.

Cheers

Nic

nikola,

mate, thank you for the wealth of information you found. This is brilliant, just want I wanted to gain !!

condottiere,

Awesome link, did not know this mag was available, thanks mate, I might try to get copies of it now.

Sparta,

Again, thank you for your information, I am very interested in the data on this corps in 1813, the battles are very obscure and not generally known all that well. I am finding out many things about this campaign every day.

Thank you guys for all your efforts, I hope this information can help others interested in this army as I am currently. For me it is a must to know and understand every army of the period, to improve my own system to portray them as they should be historically correct and not an abstraction and vague portrayal of them.

If you have or find any more links or information please by all means put it up here.

Regards,
Shane

aye, I noticed the beautiful colour plates, I was awe struck by their quality and how they also try to depict the soldiers in realistic situations. The painter is brilliant.

now if we could just find some 15mm figures to build these units…..

I inquired to Tom Dye of GFI, I believe he has masters, but not molds made yet, and probably would not invest the resources to bring them to market unless there was some signal of demand, so check him out and let him know there is some demand besides me!

How do Bunde's plates compare to the article in #16?

It looks like I could get two Bunde prints for about the same price as #16.

Is the information in each of these comparable or complimentary to each other?

Personally I'd like to see some one like Eureka, Old Glory, Warmodelling or AB do these in the 18mm size… My order would be out tomorrow if they did.

Defiant24 Sep 2008 4:45 a.m. PST

I agree, I would love to see one of the figure companies take up the baton and do both Denmark and Sweden…

balticbattles24 Sep 2008 11:56 a.m. PST

I take it you mean other than those currently available (Minifigs, Falcon, Stonghold (ex-Jacobite I think), Eureka 500 club)

I did a survey of what was available a few years back, and am currently in the process of updating it.

Please let me know if any of these are now OOP

I don't think anything is actually available yet from Eureka. It's still on their list.

They need 10 different people exceeding a total of 600 figures. Maybe if a few of you jumped on that we could hit 10 orders quickly. My order has been in for about 2 years I believe.

Also add any figures like artillery, cavalry, etc. that would be essential.

Shane – what Swedish figures are you looking for? Old Glory and Warmodelling have a range.

Minifigs also makes some and maybe a few others.

spydr12225 Sep 2008 4:38 p.m. PST

Defiant25 Sep 2008 5:55 p.m. PST

thx Doctor, I don't like minifigs all that much but did not know OG do make them also. I will defninately buy them knowing that now.

Swampking27 Sep 2008 3:02 p.m. PST

Shane,
Sorry to jump in so late – been out of the country as of late. If you're planning an 1807 army – Minifigs in 15mm is the way to go, but the cavalry [at least for the Norwegian conflict of 1808] is wrong. Then again, if you're planning an 1814 army, the infantry and artillery are in the wrong headgear [the Danes having gone to the shako by 1810] but I don't think anyone really cares.

On a side note, try to pick up the book "Uniformer, Faner og Vaben i Den Danske Haer fra 1659 til 1980" by B. Walbom-Pramvig and the book "Den Danske Haer i Napoleonstiden 1801-1814: Handbog om uniformer, faner, udrustning og krighistorie."

If you're interested in the Norwegian wars, just email me at dobretigger@email.com and I'll give you all the research I have on this campaign as well.

Shane – I ent you an email, I might have extra OG Swedes for you.

Defiant30 Sep 2008 5:58 a.m. PST

G'day mate,

Thanks for the heads up, got your email today. I probably will be interested in Swedes soon enough but I have a mountain of French to paint atm along with Russians for a friend. My mates and I have been pretty much dissecting up all of Europe between us all as to which armies we like and will and have been painting up and one of the other guys (the Russian player) is eyeballing the Swedes lately.

But thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it.

Shane
