According to period photos, some early-war Mississippi units wore a tricorn. I haven't seen any ACW 10mm figures in tricorn, so I'm thinking about using figures from another period, possibly AWI or SYW. Does anyone have any suggestions for 10mm figures in tricon that could be painted up for ACW? |

That might be tough considering the coats and other equipment will be very different. I'd use head swaps but that's not for most people at this scale. Failing that I'd say Russian SYW in waistcoats might do the job, or you might find some AWI militia that may well be more suited. |

Those fancy,pre-War militia uniforms never made it that far.ost of the time replaced with more practical unforms and headgear. Bob |

Thanks for your help. I'll buy some packs of Russian SYW figures from Pendraken to see how they look in rebel colors. Maybe the waistcoats painted rebel gray will resemble a frock coat. If not, I'll experiment with head swaps onto some Pendraken ACW figures. I hadn't considered that -- good suggestion. For some months now, I've been looking closely at the photo of the AWI militia on the Pendraken site (AWA4). Only two or three figures out of ten seem to be wearing the Mississippi-style tricorn. I was hoping to get more figures in tricorn per package. Also, the civilian-style militia clothing isn't quite right for ACW Mississippi uniforms, even if painted rebel gray. Very nice AWI figures, though! |

And there I thought this thread would be about a Miss ACW competition. Miss Union and Miss Confederacy compete in contests of skill, posing and charity work! |

Yep, these figures are for the Battle of Blackburn's Ford. |

Ooh Rah – why don't you email Dave Pengilley at Pendraken and ask him if he can do a custom pack of the AWI Militia for you? He's usually pretty accommodating (especially if you're ordering some other ACW stuff). Cheers |

Hi CATenWolde. I was under the impression that customized orders aren't usually done except for large orders. My orders are pretty small, often less than $100 USD each. Maybe this is a strange idea, but I don't feel right asking unless the order is large enough to really make it worth the vendor's time and effort. There is another project where I will spend about $200 USD on flags and for that amount I don't mind asking for a custom order. Recently, I had to repair some 10mm figures by gluing on heads that broke off and they look okay, so that head-swap idea might work out. Before going to bed last night (well, it was about 4AM), I sent an order to Pendraken for some SYM Russians and ACW figures. I'll post again and let everyone know how it turns out. |

You could try bending a slouch hat up into a tricorn with round nose pliers- sort of reverse of the trend during the AWI. Peter Pig do a tricorn head in15mm, although on 10mms they'd look pretty weird( what's that coming over the hill..) Incidently ,I can't think of a use for the Peter Pig tricorn heads-what could you add it to that wouldn't be available anyway? |

Good idea
and the best part is it sounds easy. I'll give that a try, too. |

Cheers- I've just been doing some of this with some 28mm-admitedly AWI- it's good to get a needle file around the hat band and maybe thin out the brim. |

That's nice to hear. This is my first Pendraken purchase so didn't know what to expect. |
