Can anyone tell me if the 1/2400 ships by Figurehead for this era (1850-1870) of steam frigates and ships of the line are mean to be any particular ship (British, French, etc)?

Can they be used (i.e., a steam 90 gun ship) for any steam 90 gun SOL (2 deck) for the period?

I'm looking for intervention type ships for the British and French navy that could have been used by them against the Union.

At 1/2400, a 200' frigate is 1" long. At that size individual differences between frigates would be almost indistinguishable other than number of funnels, arrangment of spar decks, etc.

I suspect they are generic, modelled off the most commonly avaiable pictures and plans.

I have a bunch of 'em, currently about halfway done painting 'em up.

Some of the ships are specific for the Italian and Austro-Hungarian ironclads at Lissa, the rest of the ships are generic.

I haven't tried fitting the generic types to non-Lissa ships yet.

The figure in the foreground is a Hallmark generic 50 gun steam frigate while the one in back is a Tumbling Dice steam 36 gun frigate that was ostensibly a named Brit.

They all look pretty generic to me although Tumbling Dice has those two deck French ironclads that are somewhat unique.

Thanks for the replies. McKinstry, you appear to have both Tumbling Dice and Figurehead ships in 1/2400. Do they match up well in size and detail?

Tumbling Dice are a bit bigger and a bit less 'refined' for lack of a better word but the range is larger, the prices about equal and this is just my opinion, painted up they both work fine together on the table.

Good. I'll plan then on getting some to compare.

Thanks,

Dan
