Saw it on ebay and seems good for quick 6mm minis painted to wargaming standard. According to this £30.00 GBP gets you 192 infantry of any manufacturer you wish delivered to your door. Thats £30.00 GBP all in.. Seems very cheap to me especially as this includes alder minis..

PS I have no association with this guy

Is it 6mm you need painting?

8p per 6mm figure how does he do it?

Angel Barracks11 Aug 2008 1:35 p.m. PST

No idea, whats the quality like, I can not tell from the website.

Click on the 6mm biblical link, then the Hittite picture; it enlarges to higher res than most of the images. Up close they look pretty poor, but the "arm's length" effect seems just fine for working on a budget.

I'm guessing there is a typo – I can't imagine the cost of the figures is included. Still that's very, very cheap even for 6mm…

Kilkrazy11 Aug 2008 3:13 p.m. PST

It says it does not cover the cost of figures. (Not surprising when a Baccus 6mm infantryman is over 5p.)

I find it hard to believe a man could make a living out of painting figures at those prices. He would have to complete and ship 250,000 6mm figures to bring in £20,000.

The painting standard looks OK for en masse figures. I've never bought any from Turbil.

blucher11 Aug 2008 3:46 p.m. PST

The ebay auction includes the figures

Chortle Fezian11 Aug 2008 8:38 p.m. PST

That is damn cheap. The quality is rough but may be fine for someone who wants to put on a really big battle and can't pay more.

For £30.00 GBP he will
1 – order your figures from irregular, baccus, adler or other 6mm manufacturer. So he is paying for the figures and postage to himself
2 – paint them
3 – base them
4 – post them to you

From his web site it looks like he works with his wife/girlfriend.

Some small companies are actually losing money or making less than they could collect in income support (welfare). I think this may be the case here.

He is giving a 2-3 weeks turn around time for these orders. That will include the time it takes to get figures from the manufacturer. This tells me that he has just started and hasn't done a lot of business. Otherwise he would have a longer delivery time. He will get snowed under with work quite quickly.

But still a damn cheap painting service!

arcaopino11 Aug 2008 9:49 p.m. PST

yeah, I used them recently. I had 288 french nap inf, 72 cav, 4 guns (with crews limbers etc), several generals. Paid £84.50, including basing, postage, figures, the lot.

Iknew this was cheap, so I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. The standard was quite good, better than it looked on the web site.

So for half the price I expect to pay elsewhere, Igot reasonable quality. But I wouldn't do it too often, because I've used offfshore services and for about twice that price, have had quite sensational quality. (Reinforcements by post – simply astonishing 6mm stuff).

So you decide how much quality is worth.

Kilkrazy11 Aug 2008 11:20 p.m. PST

To clarify the cost of figures issue, the Buy It Now eBay auction is for a regiment of 96 figures. It includes the cost of the figures (Baccus 6mm) so the cost per figure is 31.25p including metal and paint. That is slightly more than Reinforcements By Post.

The web site quotes a price of 8p per figure and you supply the metal.

Turbil have been around for a while.

They were originally called Keppwargaming2003 until someone pointed out that there was already a Keep Wargaming…

I know people who have used them and you get what you pay for – they are cheap but the 6mm stuff looks okay.

No its 192 figures not 96.

Personally I think a painting service like this is good. I dont really need super quality in 6mm stuff. That is what my 28's are for.

Kilkrazy12 Aug 2008 2:39 a.m. PST

You're right, it's 192 infantry or 96 cavalry.

I was looking at his auctions for individual regiments and got confused.

The man has over 600 positive feedbacks so he must be doing a good job.

Look pretty good for 6mm – as with Arcapino, I get great quality from reinforcements by post, albeit it for twice the price and three times the wait

I could never use him. 'Turbil' is just too reminiscent of 'gerbil'.
