I don't think so.

Nicky almost had him shot. Now it is true there was little love lost between them (and not just because of Auerstadt)

Mephistopheles07 Aug 2008 3:47 p.m. PST

I meant in a mud wrestling contest.

Meph

Well, Davout was`very shortsighted, so with his specs lost in the mud and as he flails around blindly my money is on Bernadotte…

At last, somebody who can stay on topic.

Dunno. Bernadotte will probably arrive late at the contest, so Davout might win by forfeit evil grin

The Gray Ghost08 Aug 2008 10:35 a.m. PST

Davout by forfeiture Bernadotte would never get into the mud.

Battes08 Aug 2008 12:12 p.m. PST

Gray Ghost is right, Berny never would have got in the mud, so Davout by forfeit. (However, an historical "what-if" it was a jelly-wrestling match, Berny might prove to be a bit slippery and give a better contest). Money still on Davout, mud or jelly.

Then Bernadotte go one to claim that he really won and with one hand tied behind his back too…..

Battes09 Aug 2008 3:11 a.m. PST

Well 138, with one hand behind his back – what was he doing with the other one? We can only guess….

Well, Bernadotte was notoriously reluctant actually to engage in fighting, whereas Davout, in addition to Auerstadt and the forced marching to reach Austerlitz and Eylau, got himself badly wounded at Borodino and then remounted his horse and got stuck in again. Ould Procrastinating Proboscis would have got his Belles Jambes broken good style by the Iron Marshal.
