Only 187 – seriously I thought it would be 200 at least!

I made the list so I could go shopping at Fall In!

No "1776"?
Like Abou Ben Adhem, it would lead the list.

I used to have a list that long, including MANY WRG Ancients clones that laughingly called themselves "Fast Play" by having smaller print and more tables.

Ambush Alley Games06 Aug 2008 8:00 p.m. PST

Obviously the "A" section of your library needs beefing up. If only you could find a set of rules that began with "A" . . .

;)

Hell of a list, man! You could start a gaming museum!

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP06 Aug 2008 8:01 p.m. PST

Oh, I "used to" because I ran out of room, and figured that since I have never even READ half of them, I may as well sell them to strangers at flea markets or on eBay.
A Word to the Wise: They were not a good investment.

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Aug 2008 8:02 p.m. PST

Well, I can at least say that except for a dozen or so I recently purchased I have at least read every one of them!

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Aug 2008 8:13 p.m. PST

Nice to see Gutshot there…ummm…you seem to be a bit heavy on the Napoleonics…I think you need to get some more ACW stuff to even it out…and I see nothing that says "Franco Prussian War"….
wink

nazrat06 Aug 2008 8:39 p.m. PST

You got me beat by a country mile, and I thought I had way too many sets!

AlanYork06 Aug 2008 8:53 p.m. PST

I just can't bring myself to throw rules away. Shock Of Impact, remember them? I'm never going to play them again but just can't let go. Same goes for WRG 7th and their truly dreadful army lists.

WRG 6th I may well use again as 25mm Ancients with that set is still going strong and I'd love to have a bash at it again for old times sake (great set of rules those). There's no way that set or its three army list books will see the inside of a bin.

I hate clutter as a rule but throwing away rules and lists is almost impossible to do.

hmmm, looks like a good start grin

I think that cataloging my hobby may be a task for this winter

Brent2751106 Aug 2008 9:03 p.m. PST

Ok, how many of them do you actually play?

Brent

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Aug 2008 9:09 p.m. PST

For FPW I have 1870, They Died for Glory and Volley & Bayonet. How many do I actually play? FoW, Grande Armee, Dreadnought, Stel Crush, Skirmish Fire, it's actually a much shorter list!

Wyatt the Odd Fezian06 Aug 2008 9:56 p.m. PST

The collection is not complete – you don't have "Tractics."

Go back and start over.

Wyatt

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Aug 2008 10:59 p.m. PST

Complete? I wouldn't even claim to "have every major rule set for the XYZ period" yet! I'm closest on Napoleonics but am missing many versions of Empire, Napoleon's Battles, System 7 and many, many more…

Grizwald07 Aug 2008 1:07 a.m. PST

Stargrunt II not on your list?

autos da fe07 Aug 2008 1:34 a.m. PST

Maybe some of your rules are masquerading as proper books in other parts of the house. Maybe a little search and rescue can get you up over 200. For example I'm surprised at no Napoleon's Campaigns in Miniature.

Martin Rapier07 Aug 2008 1:41 a.m. PST

Call that a collection of rules, you haven't even got Charles Grants 'Battle' let alone 'Warfare in the Industrial Age', '2x2 Napoleonics', KISS Rommel, Assault Gun or Hurrah Stalino;-)

Mike, I've got a copy of Stargrunt II.

AFAIK I've read every set of rules I've ever purchased/downloaded.

I once eBayed a package deal of WRG 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
Among its (their) clones were:
Shock of Imopact
Newbury "Fast Play" (an oxymoron if ever there was one…)
Other dreadful small print stuff that looked they came from the same printer.

Gentlemen: mmerely adding a new category for "training" does not make a rules set "new and inovative".
Of course, that was back in the day where Real Men had no stinking Spellcheck, and were forced to type accurately!

BTW, I finally sold my Emerald Tablet at Historicon flea market!

Col Scott 207 Aug 2008 3:40 a.m. PST

The first step is recognizing that you have a problem.

Really an awsome list. However I did not see "old school" style rules like Grant and Young.

Vis Bellica07 Aug 2008 3:43 a.m. PST

You need Vis Bellica and Vis Magica to really round off the list!
VB

mad mac07 Aug 2008 3:55 a.m. PST

I thought I had a rules fixation, but not any more!

Oh yes and could someone publish a rule set that begins with Z or he'll never feel complete ;)

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Aug 2008 6:07 a.m. PST

@Col Scott 2: I'm new to the hobby – painting for 6 years, gaming for just 4 – so 1988 is "old school" to me evil grin

@Vis Bellica: Sock puppet! Sock puppet! Get the torches and pitchforks!

@Mad Mac: Just cuz you're less crazy than me don;t mean you ain;t crazy too. As for "Z" I left off Zombie Apocalypse!

@Auto Das Fe: You psychic? I just turned up Esprit de Corps: A House Divided from the dining room book shelf!

Blackhawk107 Aug 2008 8:17 a.m. PST

You need Hammers Anvils to go with the Hammers Slammer's rule.

Martin Rapier07 Aug 2008 10:08 a.m. PST

"publish a rule set that begins with Z "

Well, there is always 'Zombies', which does at least have figures.

There are at least four sets starting with 'Zulu…' on freewargamesrules.co.uk alone.

Regrebnelle07 Aug 2008 12:45 p.m. PST

Quite a collection. I don't feel as bad about my couple of shelves full now.

Mark

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Aug 2008 1:16 p.m. PST

Now, now Mark. That entire collection resides in a single four drawer file cabinet. In alphabetical order. and yes, I'm that crazy in some ways.

Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy07 Aug 2008 2:53 p.m. PST

Hey Mark,
Are you going to make it to Recruits?

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Aug 2008 11:39 p.m. PST

Yep.

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Aug 2008 6:53 a.m. PST

Oops!

Just found:

Poor Bloody Infantry
Civil War Battles (Peter Pig)
Close for Action (Napoleonic Naval)
Serenissima (Renaissance Naval)

So that's 191 and counting…
