At Leipzig, the French had a number of provisional regiments. Is there any information out there regarding how these were formed and what, if any, flags or fanions were carried. Thanks! |

They were formed from single bns. of various regiments. For instance in VI Corps: the 20th Prov. Regt. was formed from 5/66th Line Regt. and 3/122nd Line Regt. and the 25th Prov. Regt. was formed from 3/47th Line Regt. and 3/86th Line Regt. Nafziger's 'Napoleon At Leipzig' lists the components of all the Prov. Regts. Most were formed from high numbered bns. so should have fanions. Cliff |

Cliff, appreciate the response. Do you happen to have them also for IX Corps? Specifically the 32nd Provisional Regiment, 34th Provisional Regiment, 35th Provisional Regiment, and 37th Provisional Regiment. I see Amazon has Nafziger's book listed but it's like $90. USD A little much for my wallet
. Much obliged! |

Paul IX Corps 32nd Prov. Demi-Brigade 2/25th Legere Regt. 4/32nd Legere Regt. 34th Prov. Demi-Brigade 3/10th Legere Regt. 2/21st Legere Regt. 35th Prov. Demi-Brigade 3/32nd Line Regt. 2/58th Line Regt. 37th Prov. Demi-Brigade 2/17th Legere Regt. 4/29th Legere Regt. I'm not sure why these were called Demi-Br. instead of Regts. Nafziger's book IS worth getting, but you should also get the other two (Lutzen/Bautzen and Dresden)as well !! And they are realy expensive these days. Digby Smith's '1813 Leipzig' also has good order of battle info. And a more reasonable price. Some more info is available at the Napoleon-Series in the Military section napoleon-series.org Cliff |

Thanks, both, for the info. I'll have to take a look at Smith's book as it's price is more justifiable to the wife. ;o) |
