I am thinking of playing Sharp Practice based on the 1804 rebellion called the [2nd] Battle of Vinegar Hill. link The Government forces (the NSW Corps) are easy to find – Peninsular Napoleonic British, but does anyone make figures that can be used as civilian rebels with muskets? The game can also include the Rum Rebellion of 1809: link I am happy to consider either 20mm or 25/28mm (preferred) to get this game up and running.

For 1804 British, try the Old Glory Napoleon in Egypt range for the British. I got a bag or two of them for my '98 Irish project. For more rebels, I am using Essex ECW Scots Montrose Irish musketeers. There is one in shirt and breeches, no kilt, and if you can ignore the lock detail and cut away his sword, he fits right in with the Trent figures. You may also want to try Jacobite Lowlanders. |

If you can find them, Old Glory had a range of late 18thc. armed civilians. I think they were offically sold by Emperors H.Q. Parisian mob types, some with muskets, many with pikes, etc. |

Craig, they might (probably) still have the molds. No harm in calling and asking. I would not mind having some of those myself. |

Thanks John – the infantry is ideal, plus the British Dragoons in Tarleton will be useful, as one of the officers present at the battle was in that uniform. |

I will dig up some stuff for you shelldrake, I done a uni assignment and a speech at The "Australian Napoleonic Congress" on the 1804 rebellion. the officer in the tarleton is actually is actually Trooper Anlezark a corporal attached to the Govenors police/ messenger unit, they used 14th (or 16th)Dragoon uniforms (the Govenors Brothers regt I think from memory). There are a couple of very good books on the subject, one in particular written by the castle hill historical society. also some good websites also. cheers matt |

Many thanks Matt – the book Lynette Ramsay Silver looks interesting; my local library doesnt have a copy, so it looks like i will be buying it soon. Many thanks for the info re Trooper Anlezark. Where there any other uniform types worn (by any ranks) that i would need to consider figures for? This battle is rather interesting, and would be fun to see if the rebels can make it last more than one day. Cheers, Ian |
