Comments or corrections?

Okay, it started as a playful comment (although true IMO, but YMMV) but let's see if it has any discussion value:

Who are the best 5 Western Actors (Radio, TV, and/or Movie) of all time who are dead as of 01AUG08?

Double credit if they appeared in two of the media and triple credit for all three…

Gracias,

Glenn

Doctor Bedlam01 Aug 2008 12:56 p.m. PST

Tom Mix. Gary Cooper. Roy Rogers. Randolph Scott. Jimmy Stewart.

If we're sticking with dead.

Doctor Bedlam01 Aug 2008 12:58 p.m. PST

Oh, man, but what about Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels?

Five is just too few.

Judge Bean01 Aug 2008 1:20 p.m. PST

Dadgummit, Yakima Canute deserves a spot spot too, did stunt work in 215 movies from 1915 to 1975, mostly westerns. Acted in 183 from 1919 to 1959. Last appearance on film 1985.

Folks that 70 years in front of a camera.

Warbeads01 Aug 2008 2:02 p.m. PST

"…If we're sticking with dead…"

So as not to clash with the other thread – we are.

Gracias,

Glenn

How's about, aside from everybodies obvious…

Roscoe Lee Brown, I thought he was great in The Cowboys.

Stother Martin, a great character actor

Chill Wills, loved him in McLintock

Charleton Heston, thought he was great in Will Penny.

Walter Brennan, good as comedy relief or being a bad guy.

MightyNighthawk01 Aug 2008 2:24 p.m. PST

John Wayne
Jimmy Stewart
Burt Lancaster
Robert Mitchum
Charlton Heston
and if you want character actors how about Woody Strode?

Daffy Doug01 Aug 2008 3:24 p.m. PST

oh, DEAD! Bleeped text my list included mostly still alive and kicking ones. In that case:

Chief Dan George
Lee Marvin
Gregory Peck
Gary Cooper
Jimmy Stewart

rddfxx01 Aug 2008 3:51 p.m. PST

I'd like to add Lee Marvin to my list (guess he replaces Wm Holden)

Doc Shaftage01 Aug 2008 7:27 p.m. PST

How lost you all are!

Cleavon Little

Gene Wilder

Mel Brooks

Slim Pickens/ Harvey Korman

Madeliene Kahn.

Kevin Costner…just mentioning because one of my favs is Dances w/Wolves. The concept, the musical score, the cinematography…just very watchable cinema.

Now, how about the women? Not a hijack, an enhancement ; )

Start w/Maureen, I suppose.

angel1302 Aug 2008 7:43 a.m. PST

John Wayne
James Stewart
Charlton Heston
Burt Lancaster
Audie Murphy

And I'm struggling here – it's really difficult to miss out Randolph Scott, Kirk Douglas and Slim Pickins!

Where's the love for Richard Widmark fellas???

Oh, I just read that Kevin Costner is still alive…I thought after Waterworld that he was no longer with us.

Terrement, good list. Some westerns just wouldn't be the same without characters like Brennan.

vojvoda03 Aug 2008 5:39 a.m. PST

The Duke then everyone else. How about a woman in Westerns thread?

Can't argue with any of those listed above. Here's some of my favorites:

John Wayne
Roy Rogers
Gene Autry
Trigger
James Arnes
