I'm a big fan of Song of Blades and Heroes, which I've been playing for a couple of months now. Now I'm thinking of buying the expansion, Song of Gold and Darkness. What I'm interested in knowing is, how much of it is usable outside of a dungeon setting? Because I don't predict myself playing too many dungeon scenarios, but I could do with some more stuff for more conventional skirmishes.

My understanding is that it IS the dungeon module for SONG OF BLADES. So naturally it is dungeon centric.

There are some new critters, advantages etc. It is a Dungeon module so that is the point. However, you could adapt the rules for towns, and sieges etc…

Song of Gold and Darkness has some rules updates, some new rules, and a lot of new creatures. Though the basic emphasis is on dungeon crawling, most of the new stuff is usable outside of the dungeon setting. There are some neat new terrain types that can easily be incorporated outside of the dungeon, plus rules for traps that could also be used on special terrain features. I have not played a dungeon crawl yet, but have used Song of Gold and Darkness extensively in my games.

Hope that helps.

There is enough in it to make it worth purchasing if you don't like Dungeon CRawls.

I'd say there's about one third of the new stuff that can be used in any scenario. The Summoner new skill is one of the best ideas I've seen in this game. However you could just wait for the wilderness module and leave this one for later.

Worth it for the new special rules for alone. buy it.

As everyone else has said it's got lots of good ideas to keep your game fresh, particularly if your running a story based campaign.
Money well spent in my opinion.
