Nope. Judging by the rifle which appears to be a Martini-Henri, I'd say they were British Colonials. |

They look like boer war or zulu war period uniform to me. |

Who is making those plastic Zulu war peirod figs? |
| mad monkey 1 | 30 Jul 2008 12:06 p.m. PST |
Gonna sy I haven't heard anyone making such figs
.could this be the next big era from one of the Plastic guys?(Perry's, Warlord, Victrix, WF) |

I have seen the digital sculpts of these before but not the actual sprue. They look just as nice real as they did virtual. They are zulu war brits. I'm not saying who made them. |
BigRedBat | 30 Jul 2008 1:42 p.m. PST |
Feet look a bit big, to me, a bit like the big feet on the WF virtual Caesarians. But I'd love to see them in the plastic. Simon |

Pictor's, would it have anything to do with the 28mm Rourke's Drift thread? |
| Pictors Studio | 30 Jul 2008 3:36 p.m. PST |
If you're talking about the Rourke's Drift building thread, no, it would probably not. That would probably have more to do with the Empress Miniatures and their soon to be released Zulus. |
BigRedBat | 30 Jul 2008 4:06 p.m. PST |
The sculpting style is looking very similar, to me, to the Wargames Factory virtual Caesarians
could it be a technological breakthrough beckons, and perhaps there are about to be some non-virtual WFs? Simon |

I thought of Wargames Foundry as well. I compared sprue structures from companies and came to this conclusion. Not interested in Zulu. Maybe some Colonial for VSF. |

By gum! Colonial plastics! It's a dream come true! Come on pictors, spill the beans! |
| the trojan bunny | 30 Jul 2008 9:23 p.m. PST |
Since Pictors said he saw virtual sculpts, and judging form the look of em I'd guess it's Wargames Factory making these. I can't wait for their release! |

If it is not Empress themselves making these figures it will probably be a bit of a concern if they are on the horizon. They will have had precious little time to make back the developement costs on their own (excellent) metal range before being hit by low price competition

'If it is not Empress themselves making these figures it will probably be a bit of a concern if they are on the horizon.' If they are from Wargames Factory and the horizon is as far away as the Roman one, then I think they'll have plenty of time to sell some figures. Even when they do come out I think the new wave of plastics will only increase sales of metal figures. A large percentage of Wargamers want variety and volume, not just volume. So initial unit sales of plastic standard pose figures will be suplimented by further purchases of metal character figures. And judging by the character of the Empress line, they will do very well. I'd of thought the obvious plastic line to do for colonials would have been natives. You need a whole horde of them. Si |

I agree with Bolt Action. Supply creates it's own demand. You can bulk out forces with plastics but you still need a bunch of metals to do a wargame. Even assuming that someone made basic Brits and Zulus in plastic I would want to get Brits loading as well as firing, NNC, NNH, Zulus with muskets, zulus with rifles, zulus that stand out a bit as officers, zulus with guts to represent the older units, Royal artillery, characters, civilians, wagons, Brtish walking wounded without their jackets one and on and on and on. So I'd imagine that the plastics will spur the sales of metals rather than decrease them. It will also increase the volume of these other units possibly making more odd things easier to produce financiallly. Now that I can afford to do 1000 zulus instead of 300 I can put a sizable contingent of these other things on the table as well. So instead of having 6 man cavalry units I might do 24 man cavalry units and so on. Even a period like ACW which you can use plastics for the majority of troops for both sides will still require a number of metals and with the plastics people will think about getting into that period that never had before. If there are plastic zulus on the horizon and plastic zulu brits it has already done empress miniatures some good. I ordered about $300 USD of their figures from Age of Glory two nights ago, the possibility of plastics has really spurred my interest in the period. |

Pictors: I picked up the intial Empress releases at HC. You'll love them! My very first foray into colonials was 15mm Zulu War, and now with these Empress castings I am moving to 28. I like it all; plastics, metals, it doesn't matter to me. I agree completely with your conclusions about demand. GregS |

yeah. take me. the perry ACW plastic got me to take the final push and start with ACW, but I needed artillery and iron brigade, mounted officers. I also need some dismounted cavalery |

Gunfreak: Just don't make the same mistake I did: I purchased Foundry dismounted cavalry, only to find they dwarf the Perry ACW miniatures! I'm going to use them anyway, but I should have waited until the Perry's released their dismounted cav. GregS |

I just orded the Perry dismounted cav(and horse holders), aswell as mounted cav. |

Greg, I do love them. I painted up 20 of their Brits before the show. They look fantastic. I can't wait until I get my order. |

THose are colonial brits all right. The pith helmet gives it away, and the martini-henrys. Thanks, John |

Mind you I've got to say that plastic nappies are not sustainably eco friendly. What's wrong with Terry Towelling ones? |

Pictors: I'm painting 1 miniature this weekend as a test/dry run. I'll get a photo posted when I've finished. Regards, GregS |
