Hi Generals,

Can anyone confirm the colour of the lace surrounding the black cuirass for Officers and Troopers in this Cavalry Regiment around 1806.

Was it plain white for Troopers? but was about the Officers.

I have seen the facings listed as Grass Green although it's shown as a quite dark green in my Osprey. Anyone got a Vallejo ref for the colour?

Cheers

Greetings vW,

Have looked at the Mollo prints, your Officer could be the from the 1st, 3rd or 8th regiment which all had red ish colour / cuffs facings.

The depicted trooper looks like it's the 5th regiment which had light blue.

Most of the illustrated plates and painted figures I have seen have depicted regiments with red facings. Kaiser Franz etc.

So was the lace around the cuirass always red for officers regardless of regiment or matched to the regimental facing colour?

Likewise the troopers, white / plain or matching regiment, facing colour?

As I only have an Osprey as a guide and the images on the net I have found
always seem to depict the Kaiser Franz it's unclear to me.

I think there are enough Archdukes out there to easily answer this.

This French site is the best I have come across, but I don't Per Le francis,
perhaps someone could translate to answer my question.

Let me know.

"Per Le francis" ?

Do you mean "parle Francais" ?

The plate indicates "d" is the 4th (grass green).

All Austrian cuirassiers had yellow felt in and around the edge of the cuirass. The felt was red for officers.

It also looks like the cuirass had a white metal edge, brass for officers and nco's.

According to the Adjustierungsvorschrift of 1811 (sorry I don't have them earlier) the officers cuirass is lined with ponceau read velvet – for all regiments

As for the cuirass of the trooper, i would go along for Mello, the rim in white – I did not come across yellow but maybe Dan Beattie is providing a source for his statement.

Also the edge of gold is only due to officers.
