Hey all, Well, my Austrian Germans have these button looking things running down the outside of their boots, and for the life of me I don't know what they are. Can anyone help with colors, or even better a good online guide to Austrian unis?:) Thanks! |

 Sorry, of course they are gaiters. It is like any knowledge of military uniforms goes right out of my head the moment I look at a toy soldier.
Thanks for the sites; I had seen them all, but had never clicked on the unit-by-unit section of the first. It is hardest to find shots of the various tidbits like canteens and such! But nonetheless, the question remains. The gaiters themselves are black apparently, but I am still not totally sure what color the straps are. Black as well? |

Straps? The ones that go under the shoe? I would suppose that there's no reason why they wouldn't be the same colour as the rest of the gaiter Someone will probably prove me wrong though… |

Buttons down the side of each gaiter, in white metal or gold depending on the regimental colour. |

Have a look at this plate. You can see the gaiter strap is the same colour as the gaiter, possibly slightly lighter in shade. link |

Weird – painting Austrian fusiliers boots – don't know whether gaiters buttons are black etc and do a search for 'buttons' – 2nd hit. |
