I am looking for Soviet vs German late war WWII scenarios. I have looked on the net but seem to come up with nothing. Would like more historical than fictional scenarios. Does anyone know where I might be able to locate some, either on the net or purchase scenario book??? |

Depends what scale of action you are after. For brigade/divisional then the TAC Publiations 'Eatsern Front 1944' has ten interesting and varied scenarios including a linked scenario mini-campaign. If sirmishy stuff, then the Skirmish Campaigns 'Red Guards at Kursk' is veryy good, here is one for GD at Kursk as well. Command Decision IV has a number of mid/late war eatsern front scenarios. 'Where the Iron Crosses Grow' is the Spearhead Eastern Front scenario book, includes lots of late war. Also have a look at Bob Mackenzies website, some great late war EF ones in there. We ran the Sandomierz bridgehead one a few weeks ago. |

I have one of Kurowski's books, also about the end of the war. "Bridgehead Kurland". If that is anything to go by, don't get it if you care one jot for what the Soviets might have been doing. I have never seen a more one-sided military history. There are loads of photos -- all of Germans. The Russian stuff is the dead or destroyed. The text doesn't give any idea of Russian plans, orbats or actions. Even the maps leave out the Soviet units! |

read "panzer battles" by von mellenthin. |

Except Mellenthin was fighting in the west at the end of the war. There are plenty of general histories of the fighting (Duffys 'Red Storm on the Reich' is OK, particularly coverage of the Stargard offensive) but I believe the original poster wanted actual scenarios. If you want the heroic defenders of the fatherland type stuff then look no further than the spewings of Paul Carrell et al. Mike Reynolds 'Sons of the Reich' has some interesting accounts of the battle for Budapest Bob Mackenzies website is here btw: link loads of really good late war EF scenario here. |

I have never seen a more one-sided military history. I have: Zhukov's memoirs and Von Mannstein's 'lost victories'
. :( Worth purchasing Le Tissier's 'Zhukov at the Oder' for small action ideas
.(lot's of maps
.) se ;) cpmodels.co.uk |

I have rather soft spot for 'Lost Victories', as with all things it is possible to go too far with revisionism – I certainly wouldn't want to serve under him though, what a miserable sob. There is a lot of interesting stuff in there, even if he does blow his own trumpet a bit loudly sometimes. Rokossovky's memoirs (A Soldiers Duty) are interesting too. |

"Where the Iron Crosses Grow' is the Spearhead Eastern Front scenario book, includes lots of late war." Problem: like all Spearhead scenarios that I've seen, these are not historical: they are made up. Really burned me, too, when I took the shrink wrap off and realized I'd been had. I could have made up my own totally fictional scenarios without paying for someone else's fantasies. If you really want this book, contact me and I will sell you mine, cheaply. |
