"This is good, because it is old." "This is better, because it is new." Both apply to anything you want to discuss: figure ranges, movies, books, historical analysis, poetry, music, literature

It's not that it's new, it's that it's plastic that makes it better! |

Does this have any implications for "change is bad?" I am rather fond of that one. :-) |
| Andrew Walters | 26 Jun 2008 7:53 a.m. PST |
"You just don't like change." "But my sibling didn't have to do that!" "But my sibling got to do that" "But we always do it this way!" "But we never do it that way!" "I've rolled so many ones I *have* to get a six this time." "Everyone else is doing it." Top of the heap and all too common: "We should implement my idea because the problem is so serious!" Andrew |

as a computer tech, one of my favorites: "But it was working before" Because we all know, if it worked before, it can never break. |

"This is bad because it is old." "This is bad because it is new." "Change is progress." "Tradition is useless." "You don't need that because you haven't painted the ones you already have." "You don't need more of those because you have thousands of them already painted and that's more than enough to play with." |

" Gag. reminds me of the expression around here I have declared war upon: "Let's do <something> on a go-forward basis". I now interupt meetings with humourous and good natured but pointed derision whenever I hear that expression being used. -- Tim |

The time honored 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it !' And the response 'We should break it and fix it right !' Followed by 'Well then, let's break and fix the way we make babies !' The latter two heard in a heated discussion while I still worked for IBM, between two yuppies, a male and female. Three years later, they married each other

Not an argument really but it always amuses me: Turn or game ends, loser rolls the dice one more time just because and rolls a winning result: "See, if I had had one more turn, I'd have won (the skirmish, battle, game)!!! |
