Hello all, Im after starting an insect inspired army! Im after any suggestions for insectoid miniatures in 28mm, although by the nature of insectoids the scale could be variable. So far ive scoped out spugs, GW vespid, and some of the combined army stuff from infinity, i also saw an insect inspired mini from the old confrontation line(very nice) So any more ideas? Thanks in advance FFF |

Do a search on the message boards for "selenites" (from HG Wells's First Men in the Moon – there have been a couple of threads lately about insectoids from that background. See, in particular the "selanities" in Scheltrum Miniatures' Ironclad Empires range. East Riding Miniatures has a very nice giant fly with a gun, but sadly, only the one. Eureka's "Reservoir Bugs" are giant insects in suits and ties. |

There's a more general alien minis thread on Majestic 12 Games forum that's sorta weighted towards insectoids, so it might be of some use: link |

**********Shameless Plug Warning************ We just released the first of our insectoid race called the Kithix for our Primal Dawn prehistoric fantasy range: link The creature is approximately 40mm tall. More will be following in the next few months. If you like the Kithix hunter, you'll LOVE the Kithix Queen! Matt Beauchamp Hydra Miniatures -Matt |

Penndraken has some 10mm bugs that work for smaller 28mm bugs. I use them as 28mm bugs. |

Irregular in their 25mm SF have IIRC figures called spice warriors. Arrow miniatures have Wormric warriors (they used to be called lice or some such) which despite the name are an insectoid. Team Frog Studios make Insectons. You could also consider the Geonosian figures from the Star Wars collectible figures game. You used to be able to buy them as singles from a number of sellers or on eBay at a reasonable price. Ground Zero Games have a couple bug warriors similar to Mongoose's. The Void miniatures include the Larvan figures. Reverisco have the Dreenoi in their Star Guard line. Scotia Grendel make the Kryomek figures which are insect like. There used to be a USa outlet but I dont know if the US one is still in business. Bronze Age miniatures make Dark Elf Cyborg spiders (what a name but, nice figures) and Leech men. Black Orc Games have the 100 Kingdoms figures which have the Hive series of Insects though they are more fantasy than SF. The old Star Frontiers miniatures from TSR had Edestekai and Queeg or some such name. You can find them from time to time on eBay. Good luck, Al |

Try Black Orc Games Hundred Kingdoms line. They have a faction I think is called The Hive with all sorts of giant bugs and humanoid bug type models. |

Ditto on Black Orc's hive. They used to sell bits for the line too (antennas, heads, etc). They would make for fairly easy conversions and sort of match the Spugs in feel IMHO. |

I'm doing a similar theme – looking for stuff to use with my spugs. One thing found for me, were some large plastic toy insect types – about a foot long. these are going to be converted into spug vehicles :-) |

I'll add my vote for the Dreenoi; any insectoid race that uses technology and carries on like a swarm of interstellar Siafu has my vote

Hmm. i don't know about intelligent insects using insect-shaped vehicles. Our vehicles don't look much like mammals, do they? Perhaps it would be worth starting from the types of structures insects do build – ant hills, bee hives, hornets' nests – and using shapes and proportions derived from them. |

Im going with the mecha style, humonoid mecha walk on two legs and mimic humonoids in power armour with two arms head etc(for the most part) so upright insectoids that already have armour/chitin i think that there "mecha" would mimic this. Although i think vehicles could and should mimic some structures and shapes from the insect realm. FFF |
