I have a four-player gangster game that I run pretty often, with the players named, as in "Reservoir Dogs" and "The Taking of Pelham 123", Mr. Black, Mr. White, Mr. Green, and Mr. Brown. The hidden unit markers, hidden unit boxes, and dice are all color-coded to match. For one thing, this makes my job as GM a lot easier, since I call players by "name" and can remember who's who just by looking at their pile of dice in their corner of the table.

Problem is, I can't seem to find plain brown D6 dice. I have a Chessex box of each of the other colors (and blue for when the Coppers show up), but can't seem to find no-kidding plain brown dice. The closest I have seen lately at the FLGS is a sort of copper-and-black swirl. I seem to remember some khahi-colored dice from a game (Flames of War?) but they had some odd logo instead of the one, or something like that.

Any ideas?

I have two in an old Backgammon game.

I also wanted to color-code play aids & dice for an ATZ game with 6 players & also searched the local merchants of dice in vain for standard brown cubes.

Flying Buffalo made them with skulls replacing the one. I have had a number of them in stock at my store over the years of that style and others. I do not think I have any currently in stock.

Back in my teenager D&D days one player used to gather up all the loose dice, stuff them in his mouth then burst them out like John Belushi in Animal House, "I'm a zit, get it!". Yes it was gross.

In self-defense one player spray-painted all his dice brown. We could never figure out why he did it, "ew, look at those [expletive] dice".

Then eventually I realized said prankster always left those dice on the table. He didn't want to put the [expletive] dice in his mouth, you see.

So … try spray paint.

I have several from some WizKids' "Pirates" bonus boxes. They're typical Monopoly-sized, though most people say WK's dice are the worst-rolling imaginable, but I've never sat down and tested it.

How many do you need? You're welcome to these. I'll see how many I have…

"Tested" dice? I have seen this being attempted. I always smile behind my sleeve.

I had a set of brown d6's once upon a time. They rolled for me according to their color, Bleeped textty.

Brown dice are local dice, and local dice are fresh!

They have wooden dice. That's as brown as I could find.

What would you like them made of? .. there are LOTS of Brown Stone dice … Brown Plastic dice seem to be kind of scarce now .. unless you dont mind symbols on the 1 or six side … like the House Kurita dice from Wizkids ( picture )

I've some yellow dice thats sort of a brown

bobmcdonald15 Jun 2008 5:18 a.m. PST

Well, everybody, thanks for the posts, but it looks like the same all over. There's just something about brown. Oddly, the material I use for the hidden unit markers does not come in brown in the same thickness as the other colors, and the little "Chinese takeout" boxes that are brown have a different finish to them, so all of Mr. Brown's gear seems to be a bit odd. I guess I could go ahead and give him bizarre-looking dice as well.

Or maybe I should just go all out and rename him "Mr. Pink".

"Hey! Why do *I* have to be Mr. Pink?"

Are brown dice healthier than white dice?

I like a brown dice and wild dice mix, myself.

Bardolph16 Jun 2008 11:30 a.m. PST

I have a couple, from an old backgammon set. I did some Google searching last night and indeed they are about impossible to locate. I even tried looking for backgammon parts dealers to see if you could buy those brown dice I have and no luck.

coopman17 Jun 2008 2:35 a.m. PST

You could spray paint some dice brown & then paint the spots back on them. Coat with a clear acrylic sealer and you're all set.

Kevin Cook19 Jun 2008 7:30 a.m. PST

Actually spray painting is not such a crazy idea … Krylon now makes spray paint for plastic … and it DOES bond well … I had to change the color of some plastic electrical receptical plates to match the others in the store (white to brown) and it dried fast … and did not scape off with a knife after 24 hours

Jayster20 Jun 2008 6:39 a.m. PST

I have some brown dice somewhere, although where they are I don't know. I bought them from Esdevium Games, but that was back in the 1980's and things have changed.

I thought I would send you this link:

dice.co.uk/fs_spotdice.htm

but even they don't list brown any more. I guess it's no longer a fashionable colour?

DuckanCover15 Jan 2012 11:29 p.m. PST

Apologies for bumping an oldie here folks, but I find myself in need of a bunch of 16mm brown dice, as well as 16mm tan dice, with rounded edges. Prefer pips to numbers. Pip colors not important (since they can be changed fairly easily), but no animal symbols. Seen those, not what I'm after.

Any success since 2008?

Google brings no joy…….

Oh, and I've tried "gmdice". THEY have been out of stock of the colors or quantities I'm after for almost two years now. frown

I think Koplow make some "bear dice" that have a bear where in place of the 1 pip. I'm pretty sure they're available in brown.

CheroCzech23 Jul 2015 1:17 p.m. PST

I bought this set which had brown dice.

I stock brown 12mm dice (no pictures on the site yet) but haven't come across brown 16mm, it's a personal quest of my own!

My daughter's dog produces them inside the house on a regular basis. I can send you some for free if you want. Honestly I'd be happy if you took the dog.
