Hi, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the second edition. The yahoo group seems to have disapeared.

Cheers,
Jamie.

Keep Wargaming was the publisher. DBF is on sale in their eBay webshop here:
auction
It doesn't say if this is the second edition or not, but it is copyright 1997, 1998 – which suggests it might be.

the only published set was the first edition. the yahoo group for dbf2 is gone. evil gong also created a second edition set called de bellis fictionalis. i did download a copy of de bellis fantasticus 2 before the group disappeared.

IF you want info on DBF my club (Ilford) were the originators.
The author (Madan Mitra) has done quite a lot of work on a new update which he's tried out at the club. I forget what he called the new version of the rules but I do rember he'd come up with some new ideas for Magic and a rather different combat system.

The whole system is however still element based.

Dear All,
It is with profound regret that I have laid DBF-2 to rest in the soil of Mother Earth. After spending years developing it to accomodate the vageries of the DBM my head exploded in a thousands small pieces. Humpty Dumpty was called in to aid the restoration of my head.

Now I can see clearly, now I know how to fix it and all the problems with DBM, its simple and elegant and it works…I just cannot be asked to write it it anymore, the wording, the diagrams, the not being allowed to include the main rules and the volume of shear faffing about…I'm done, goodnight, sionara. Please turn off the lights, nothing to see here.

Me I'm off to play Wings Of War which I am going to develop into a Fantasy Naval Game…

Best Regards
Madan Mitra

However,if anyone is interested…please contact me and I will see about the version I have at the moment, and it'll still knock you socks off. Paladins, Heroes, Clerics, Pole Arms, 35 spells, 3 levels of Mage, stacks of very detailed army lists including some wonderful mythologies, magical terrian effects, more creature, simpler combat outcomes that work even for Blades v Warband, spear v spear aint boring either, skirmishers that evade, mounted that shoot…all not compiled properly…ho hum.

I'd like a copy
Thanks,
michael

Ummm…

Just to point out here…

Hoplon long ago worked out the problems with the DBM system, and I have done a lot of work on a Fantasy Variant of the game.

Since the Hoplon system has the variations provided by the Distinctives, it did not need to have separate troop types for Elven Archers, and other specialty troops like them.

I have even done a little bit of work on a Magic system…

I also seem to recall looking through your latest version at one point and noting that you had adopted some of the mechanisms of Hoplon (Evading for instance))

Madan Mitra12 Jun 2008 6:00 a.m. PST

Hi J, Looks like Great Minds think alike 8¬)

Not read Hoplon in a long long time. My evade was simply logical. As to elven archers, that was me trying to colour things in and I liked doing that…

If you've done a Fantasy varient of Hoplon, then I would suggest people use that and not my DBF-2 as right now its structure is pants…

The problem I have is that very good friend of mine has written the most fantastic Army Lists and he does not want them released yet…and I won't work on DBF-2 for a good few years or so. So my promise of giving what I've done, I think, will never see the light of day…sorry guys…one day, maybe.

Bye
Madan Mitra
PS bit strange this, but I have not publicly released any evade rules to anyone as I only wrote them in s few months ago which was my last attempt at it…so where did J read them from, not me thats for certian. Only curious, nothing more…my biggest change is that now to destroy/kill an element you just beat it by 3…or double it…

Judas Iscariot13 Jun 2008 5:49 a.m. PST

Madan,

We had an email exchange about six months to a year ago where you had asked about various things in Hoplon, and you mentioned that evading was something that you were attempting to do for DBF2… You mentioned that Hoplon's rules sounded a lot like what you were thinking of…

Madan Mitra13 Jun 2008 10:04 a.m. PST

Oh, OK thanks J. Like I said, just curious.
Good Luck with the Fantasy Varient.
Bye
Madan
