link Interesting article. Don't know what the big deal is.. it happens in ANY country during wartime. Our US troops did pretty much the same thing in England, and they were our Allies! |

I've read about French Prisoners of War, who were incarcerated in Germany, but not strictly confined to camp, having affairs with German women. |

Checking the comments to the article, looks like some people will not let history come in the way of good old-fashioned frog-bashing: "Even now they [French] don't want to be part of NATO, even though it was NATO troops that liberated France." NATO being only established in 1949. Back to the original topic, after the occupation ended, the women who had been fraternising with German soldiers during the war were not always treated very nicely in various parts of good old civilised western Europe. And had they ended up getting children whose father had been a German soldier, those children might end up getting rather lot of abuse for it in their youth. Griefbringer |

Even worse was this other comment about the article-- "Looking at today's multicultural hell, it should be apparent to all people of European blood that the good guys lost WW2. " It's hard to imagine that ANYONE could profess this viewpoint! |

Nazrat, "It's hard to imagine that ANYONE could profess this viewpoint!" Sounds like a legitimate point of view to me
I may not completely agree with it, but part of what the writer is railing again is just the sentiment you've expressed
we cannot have a balanced discussion of certain issues, which are now labeled "politically incorrect", no matter how apparent the contradiction between theory and reality. For example, is diversity always a good thing. I'm not conviced it is given the never ending battles between ethnic or religious groups thrown together in the name of diversity. Unfortunately if you try and raise questions to the basic premise you are branded as narrow minded or worse. Maybe a more relevant topic is global warming
. is it a long term trend and if it is, is there anything mankind can do to influence it. Is there really any chance to have a rational discussion about that at this point? db |

"It's hard to imagine that ANYONE could profess this viewpoint!" Umm, sadly it is very easy indeed. They do tend to be the sort of people with shaved heads and signed copies of Mein Kampf who are most concerned with the blood purity of their race. |

This sounds like it will soon end up on one of the boards that no longer exist

Hi In the Billy Wilder Movie "One, Two, Three" he has the principle character mocking his german employees about how amazing it was that there are no nazis, just resistance fighters. It is difficult for people to accept that their grandfather was a "horse thief". Rocky |

It seems that wartime is always a period of strong sexuality. Traditional morality is largely concerned with keeping order and looking to the future good; people who might die tomorrow aren't waiting to have sex in five years time. There are huge numbers of young men away from their mother's disapproval. There are huge numbers of women way from their men, and (aside from the obvious) often needing financial and other assistance from men with power. Certainly accounts of London in WWII are full of the sort of sexual liberty that had been unknown in 1930 and would be largely locked away after the war. Read Alan Furst's novels "The World at Night" and "Red Gold" for a nuanced view of Paris under occupation. Oh, they are damned good espionage/resistance stories as well. I always note that whatever source they are commenting on, the people who add their thoughts to articles in the press contain a much higher number of idiots than you'll meet on, say, TMP :) |
