Does anyone know what happened to those minis? I found a bunch I bought when I was a youngster in the 80s. They are really nice and were a good scale/sculpt for the Striker game. Striker being the battle game for Traveller, in case you don't know.

Did these minis just disappear forever? I have a variety of 60 humans in space suits, 40 Vargr Mercenaries and 37 Zhodani.

Any info and leads appreciated.

I'm looking for these too! They were a nice set but they are HARD to find these days. I found a set a couple of years ago at a store called 'The War House' in Long Beach, CA. but I was short on funds at the time. Maybe check with them? They should have a web site but I don't know it.

GreatScot7220 May 2008 3:04 p.m. PST

Do the Stryker 15s mix with the GZG 15s? I have heard of many people using GZG as proxies.

The G Dog Fezian20 May 2008 3:35 p.m. PST

Done by the Perry Brothers if memory serves.

Sweetest 15's I've every owned. I never use 'em, but I just can't seem to part with them.

Citadel, RAFM, or Martian Metals?

Smiley20 May 2008 4:48 p.m. PST

RAFM picked them up from Martian Metals, still sell the vehicle's.

Urgh, $80 USD for a platoon of grav tanks? Seems a bit pricey, although I actually kinda like the design of them.

infojunky20 May 2008 5:04 p.m. PST

The figures displayed with those tanks aren't Martian metals though, I just emailed RAFM as to their provenance.

jfleisher20 May 2008 5:38 p.m. PST

I still have an original MM grav tank, one of the first things I ever painted…

I love the Citadel 15mm Traveller figures, but wasn't too impressed by the MM or Rafm. I had the good fortune to buy out a retailer after they were discontinued and still have about 600 or so, and that's after selling a bunch on eBay years ago. Great sculpts for their size with just enough detail and just enough space for a little freehand. And great for big battles on big layouts. Ah, good times.

Erbprinz20 May 2008 9:55 p.m. PST

Mine are from the Citadel / RAFM era, but I remember that Martian Metals was in there somewhere. We're talking 25 years ago people, and my mind ain't waht it used to be.

But: Infojunky, the figures in that pick with the tanks ARE some of the ones I have! I recognize them and their round bases. They also came with a sheet of paper explaining the entire 25-man (or whatever) platoon in STriker game terms. So are these done by the Perry Brothers?

Clearly the sculptors are different for my Zhodani. I believe the Zhodani were from Martian Metals, and they are not as nice as the ones in the grav tank pick.

Finally, $20 USD for a 15mm grav tank is just out of the question for me!

Erbprinz20 May 2008 9:57 p.m. PST

Diehard, meant to ask if you've any pics of those figures? IT'd be good to see them. I was hoping to find some more info on them as I don't hardly have anything except one bag of totally unopened VArgr for info.
thanks,
Erb

Erbprinz20 May 2008 10:21 p.m. PST

OK, here they are. Not quite as much diversity, but it helped clear up things a bit, they are listed under the Citadel line altho they've both on the packages:

link

I have a bunch of the Vargr, 40 or two bags. Then I have 20 high-tech troopers and 40 high techs in battle dress, obviously one bag of the first and two of the second.

Diehard, are these any of the ones you have?

Von Trinkenessen21 May 2008 4:12 a.m. PST

Just a word of warning these figures are from an era when
the mix of metal was sometimes suspect.
I have lost a heartbreaking over 100 figures to the metal rot turning to dust in the last 10 – 15 years.

Dropship Horizon21 May 2008 5:20 a.m. PST

"The figures displayed with those tanks aren't Martian metals though, I just emailed RAFM as to their provenance."

They are Traveller miniatures Citadel, from the Ships Crew boxed set if I remember correctly.

"Do the Stryker 15s mix with the GZG 15s? I have heard of many people using GZG as proxies."

They mix with the more armoured GZG figs and are better suited in scale to GZG's vehicles than GZG's own infantry.
They are a closer match to Laserburn figures from 15mm.co.uk

Cheers
Mark

infojunky21 May 2008 9:50 a.m. PST

Yes, that is what they appear to be, the question is do they have the molds/masters for them.

The Beast Rampant21 May 2008 10:01 a.m. PST

My favorite 15mm Sci-fi range. I picked up quite a few on ebay over the years. their Vargr rule!

Erbprinz31 May 2008 4:02 p.m. PST

A prize to A R Garbee! quote from the Perry's:

"Hello Alex
Yes, they're ours….from a long time ago. I seem to remember really enjoying making them.
All the best
Alan"

Note that they're otherwise MIA, altho I think InfoJunkie is trying to track down the molds…any perry brother mold series would be worth keeping in circulation, I'd say.

And a negative from the War House in Long Beach, but thanks for the lead.

It's looking like my "sudden Retro-gaming fixation" is going to be satiated by getting OGRE/GEV miniatures for now.

Diehard…

The RAFM Traveller mniatures ARE the Citadel Traveller minis (at least the 15mm figures).

The Later Traveller figures from RAFM were for Traveller TNE.

daddyslittlemen02 Jun 2008 8:22 a.m. PST

I sent RAFM an email about the Citadel Traveller mins and they sent me back an email saying that they'd found some of the molds and were trying to figure out what to do with them.

This was almost a year ago right after they re-introduced the Martian Metals vehicles.

Seriously, what is there to figure out? I know if they are not production molds it would cost money to put them back in production, but these figures often go for $1.50 USD to $2.00 USD a figure on Ebay.

That is 3 to 4 times what a typical 15mm figure sells for. Sounds profitable to me.

I've already picked up most of what I want through Ebay over the last two years. But I'd certainly pay $1.50 USD a figure for another platoon of Mid-tech and it would be nice to have a platoon of Vargr.

Warbeads02 Jun 2008 8:55 a.m. PST

Well, I was not a Traveler/Traveller fan even though I owned too many books 'back in the day' and played rarely (we were too busy with historical armies, LOTR (bbok) armies, and the occassional D&D white box based campaign but the idea of more 15mm SF figures to battle my GZG stuff…sounds good to me.

Gracias,

Glenn

Clambo and InfoJUnky,

Why don't you give us the email of the person whom you contacted? We can start a post about "Requests to re-release Striker 15s" and have all those in favor say "Aye" and email RAFM?

Can't think of a better way to show them that there's still interest. And who knows, perhaps the Perry Bros will want them? Alan said he really enjoyed making them.

ps I'm replying with this to Alan in case it sparks some interest…

infojunky03 Jun 2008 11:40 a.m. PST

I actually haven't gotten an answer back, the last time i thought about RAFMs site was down.

daddyslittlemen03 Jun 2008 9:51 p.m. PST

Here's the email response I rec'd last August from brock@rafm.com. This was in response to a question I'd sent custserv@rafm.com about whether they owned the molds.

"Hi
We have uncovered some of the old miniatures that you are asking about. We
have going through them to put them in order. At this time we have no made
any plans for them.
If you have any other questions please contact me.
Thanks
Jack"

infojunky06 Jun 2008 5:55 p.m. PST

Well, they are producing some of those figures now!

They recently added the High Tech Infantry to the 15mm page.

Erbprinz11 Jun 2008 8:29 a.m. PST

so we'll read that as "we've no plans except to produce some of them for now".
:)

Erbprinz24 Jun 2008 7:54 a.m. PST

Gang,
Reply from Alan Perry RE: producing Striker 15mm:

"Hello
I'm afraid we are not allowed by our GW contract to release any sci-fi or fantasy ranges, so I'm afraid it will never happen via Perry Miniatures, sorry.
All the best
Alan"

Unsurprising, but disappointing.

Judas Iscariot24 Jun 2008 10:44 p.m. PST

If I could get the time and money to get back to the proper 3D prototyper, I have 3DO files for an Imperial Marine and Zhodani that I would like to produce in 6mm, 10/12mm (1mm actually), 15mm, and 25mm… (or 18mm and 28mm).

School torpedoed my plans to do more with this, and I had to put off my 3D-Digital Design classes until next year. I had a plan to raise the money to produce a decent line of minis, and then pay the class to do a mini each for their final project. If they got a B or higher on that final project, then I would agree to "buy" the 3DO file and prototyped minis from them for a few hundred dollars each.

With an average of 20 students in the class… That could be a LOT of minis with 20 to 30 new releases each semester…

Erbprinz25 Jun 2008 12:13 p.m. PST

wow, that's one way to get a mini line off the ground!

But I think to get these Perry sculpts out will just require a decision from someone at RAFM at this time, according to CLAMBO above.

Well, as previously mentioned, the hi-tech infantry are out, lets hope sales convince them to release more.

Personally I really want to the see some of the mid-tech troops.

Dropship Horizon08 Oct 2008 4:57 a.m. PST

The Mid-Tech Infantry are available once again via RAFM.

See: TMP link

Been waiting 20 years for these to be readily avaialble again. based on the casting quality of Infantry Pack No.1 (The High Tech troopers) we won't be disappointed.

Cheers

daddyslittlemen08 Oct 2008 9:22 a.m. PST

Now I can build the 3rd Platoon on my Mid-Tech Infantry company without taking out a second Mortgage (if the bank would even let me).

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa15 Oct 2008 8:35 a.m. PST

Dang, nearly missed that – looks to be a mix of the low & mid tech, all good though.

@Clambo
I second the second mortgage comment!

John Leahy Supporting Member of TMP15 Oct 2008 11:11 a.m. PST

I placed my order for these and about 100 GZG infantry. Can't wait to get these and start painting them. In the meantime i'm working on some cork and paper buildings for them.

Thanks,

John

Buckeye AKA Darryl14 Jul 2016 8:32 a.m. PST

RAFM has all the figures available, just not in their original Striker blister configurations. However, I was able to place a special order by emailing them what I wanted from the current offerings to match the Striker unit orgs.

Yes, they still do have them – and they also agreed to organize them to the Striker platoons from back in the day.

Great place to order from – looking forward to getting the order from RAFM and getting painting!
