Goodevening all! I want to paint A LOT of cossacks for my new project; Kolchacks army. So, i have been looking for 15mm cossacks, but only two producers seem really to make high quality figures: PP and FOW. Does anybody know how these figures compare? Moreover – the FOW cossacks seem only to be available in a boxed set link which is a bit more than i was barganing for – im first and foremost looking for the mounted cossacks
Anyone know if these are for sale anywhere? Thanks /thomas |

I've gone P.Pig and Minifigs Circassian Cossacks myself. picture Old Glory also have Cossacks in their Russo-Japanese War range but I've never seen them, so can't comment on suitability. Cheers Mark |

I have both FOW and PP figures albeit for differenet forces. They do not mix well together. The FOW cossacks are on very large horses compared to the PP and carrying a high proportion of SMGs and LMGs not realy suitable for RCW. DEpending on what infantry figures you are using I would suggest that PP is the way to go. REgards Alan |

You do know Thomas that Kolchak's Cossacks were indistinguishable from normal Russian Cavalry? (At least in 15mm scale -- technically they should have nagaika whips and slightly baggier trousers, but you're not likely to spot that.) The "Cossack" dress with fancy kaftan is not traditional Cossack dress at all. It is the traditional dress of the Caucasian Mountain peoples (Chechens, Ingush etc) and was only worn by them and the two Cossack hosts that neighboured them -- the Kuban and Terek. Orenburg, Urals and Siberian Cossacks fought with Kolchak (though not in large numbers, actually, as they mainly fought for their own Host Armies). They would never wear the Caucasian kit. What you need is the PP regular WWI Russian cavalry of WWI. Packs 42, 43 and 44 (they were half lancer). Swap some heads to fur cap perhaps. (BTW, I second Alan that the FOW Cossacks are totally unsuitable even as Kuban or Terek Cossacks for 1919-1920). |
