Has anyone tried mixing these two manufacturers ships? I already have some Langton 1:1200 galleys and I know they are by far the more superior (and expensive) model. So I was just trying to mix things up a bit and keep the overheads down a bit by adding some NavWar 1:1200. Otherwise it is going to cost me the same to re-fight the battle of Lepanto as it cost to fight the actual battle!!! :-) Any thoughts? Richard |

Richard, The two do not mix well. The Langtons are considerably more detailed, and the Navwar tend to be bigger. For example, I use a few of their small galleys as large galleys with my Langton fleet. |

I'm mixing them. Langton for the command ships but NavWar for the others. Yep, its for the cost. The Langtons are a LOT nicer, but sizewise they mix pretty well. You will be able to tell which are which on the table just by the level of detail, but since I'm using the nice ones as command ships that's really ok – they stand out. The NavWar stuff really isn't that bad – with a little cleaning up – its just that Langton is fantastic. You get what you pay for, unfortunately you also pay for what you get. |

I was going to add – get a sample of all of the NavWar ships because some look different than others. It may be, like VSB that I'm using the small galleys. Another source to look at is Valiant, which have some Med Galleys in their Spanish Main range. They are a little larger IIRC, and dont come with oars, but match in terms of delicacy of look more with Langton. Whatevevr you decide – if you mix, and use anything but Langton, it is a compromise. Get a few and decide what you can live with. |

Here's a pic of a Navwar large (meaning standard sized galley in their lingo) compared to a Langton Christian (Langton's standard sized galley). picture |

Hey thanks guys for the feed back – I wasn't expecting to hear anything on the subject for days – I considered it a bit of a niche topic! That comparison pic was very helpful (is there any more galley stuff on your website VSB I had a look but couldn't find anything). I think I will get a few NavWar pieces and see how it goes. Rich |

Not on my site, but I did a workbench tutorial here on Langton galleys last year. Anything in particular you want to see? There are a couple others of us here besides Qurchi Bashi and myself that do this period. McKinstry for one that I can remember. VSB |

Well if you have some instructions or pictures I would love to have a look at them. I found the rigging a bit tricky and guess worky and I hadn't a clue about the sails so I went for furled. I didn't realise until too late that the rails go in first then the oar crew. So if it is know trouble e-mail me the link or the file. Thanks ever so Rich |

I have a large collection of unpainted NavWar galleys still in their packaging; enough for two fleets. I am looking to sell them if you are interested. My email is: le_coq_fou at yah00 d0t c0m. |
