I need 15mm ACW figures that have practically no mold lines that need to be scraped and as little flash as possible. I am not trying to be an elitist. I have bone defects in my right hand that can cause me major pain. At times I am afraid it will drive me out of the hobby! (I have never mentioned this before.)

I got some Battle Honors 15mm ACW Union in kepi packs and they have horrid mold lines and flash. (Sorry abelp01!) To a much lesser degree, I had experienced this before on my pack of BH Iron Brigade but bit the bullet and tried to clean up these kepi packs. I did three figures and tossed everything back in the bag. Twisting the knife around was too much for my hand. If I continued, an hour later I would have had pain lasting me for days.

I have Peter Pig WWII and love them. How is their ACW line?

I hope you all have some good recommendations because I have been regretting immensely not getting in on the 1/2 price Sash & Saber sale the other month, thinking I would be able to get away with .25 BH figures instead. I could kick myself now!

Peter Pig is usually pretty clean. I have been buying some Musket miniatures AWI stuff it is pretty good as well.

Stosstruppen05 May 2008 6:02 p.m. PST

Musket does have an ACW line

We have a 15mm range that cleans very easily (little in the way of mold lines). I'll be up front, they are "ture 15's" meaning 15mm to top of the head and the range is incomplete – it has all of the basic infantry and cavalry that you will need, but no artillery pieces (crew, yes, guns no) and we are not heavy on command. On a good note, these are priced the same as our N-gauge (10/12mm) figures (1,000 foot figures for $130). Not presently listed on the website, but can send sample and figure list if you are interested.

Sent a PM. Thanks.

Do the Musket and PP fit well together? Will they work ok with my BH Iron Brigade? I've noticed that ordering PP from England is now cheaper by $1/pack than from Brookhurst. Tanks are $3 USD cheaper. Go figure.

The Musket Miniatures figures should be pretty clean.

I started my armies with Musket Miniatures, and I've added Stone Mountain, Old Glory, Battle Honors, Peter Pig, and Frontier without any jarring scale differences. The Civil War lines all mix pretty well.

For your requirements, I would recommend Musket Miniatures and Stone Mountain. I can't remember ever finding any flash on the hundreds of their figures I've painted.

GFI Minifigs are also very clean.

Looks like I'm getting some good suggestions. :-) I checked Peter Pig's website. Are the redesigned figures taller than the older figures? I experienced that with the WWII but the difference if slight IMO.

How are Freikorp 15's?

BTW I generally make units out of the same manufacturer but gladly mix and match manufacturers in an army.

I like Musket Minis. The only real filing is on the bottom of the bases. Minimal flash.

I highly recommend AB minis ACW (from Eureka USA, incredibly fast service), especially since you liked Battle Honors (same sculptor I've been told). Mine were clean out of the bag.

If you need to find a new home for some of those BH minis, let me know maybe I can help out. mudstone00 at yahoo dot com

How are Freikorp 15's?

We think they're rather good :-)

I have a real soft spot for the Stone Mountain range. I don't recall them having much by way of flash or bad mold lines.

Never tried Peter Pig, but have heard consistently good things. I have Essex, Freikorps, Stone Mountain, Minifigs and even some old Hinchcliffs – I found that the Stone Mountain were pretty flash-free (I also have a soft spot for them – they look great painted, especially as those scrawny Rebs) – the Esses were also flash-free, but a lot had little tiny bases – the Freikorps were also flash-free, but were a little bit small and also (maybe just my bad luck) the stuff I bought had very odd combos, e.g. a bag with 7 drummers in it

Further to Geoff's note, just went to QRF's website – the Freikorps ACW range looks great – as noted, I evidently had very bad luck from the shop I bought mine from (who sold them in big bags of 50+ figs)

have completed both reb and union armies, all peter pig, excellent figures,no lines, good detail.

Better look here for size comparisons – Peter Pig are smaller than a lot of ranges – as are Freikorps.

That's interesting as, as far as I am aware, we have never sold them in bags of 50+

We can't help it if other people keep making their figures bigger ;-)

Scale Creep's page hasn't been updated since 2005, so it's getting a little long in the tooth. It looks like all his PP figs are the old smaller ones before they were redesigned last year. I wish he had larger, better photos taken with a modern digital camera with all the minis lined up. (I know, it takes time. I've had a huge modeling/photography website of my own for 10 years!)
