I had my first Kriegsspiel game at the weekend, and I have to say I am hooked
I joined the group, and was invited to a game in Hemel Hempstead
A small game using the meckal? map
I had a completely new insight into what being a general is all about…..Mostly confusion and blamelaying
I would suggest to anyone ,interested in Wargaming of any sort ,to give this a try

Check out the British Wargaming board for my report on Kriegspiel with TooFatLardies at Salute.
I hope to make it to Hemel Hempsteead to game with that group some day.
Also check out toofatlardies.co.uk and the yahoo group they run for lots about Kriegspiel.

Glad to know you enjoyed your first encounter with the rules. We have been really pleased to be able to get these back into production and the response from people who have played them has been universally positive. Indeed I have never had so many post Salute emails from people who took part in the game just saying "Wow, that was great".

Funnily enough I mentioned this on another thread earlier. Von Reisswitz who wrote Kriegsspiel was a veteran of the Napoleonic Wars and it is fantastic to see a set of rules written for that period by someone who was really there.

I was most surprised by how comprehensive and modern the system is, I had been expecting soemthing akin to Little Wars or early Featherstone/Scrubby, but far from it. This is a really sophisticated, fun to play set of rules that looks and plays like a modern game. It's a great testament to the author's knowledge.

I have used my original copy for the last twenty-five years as a reference book for almost any period I do – I've run WWII campaigns using the system in them, I've developed rule sets with the ideas therein, I've bolted them onto other tabletop sets to use for running the campaign elements of those games.

They certainly open your eyes to realities that you just don't get to see with a traditional tabletop rule set.

Glad you liked them, and great to hear you'll be back for more.

Cheers

Rich

Glad you enjoyed the game – I was umpiring! We used the Kriegsspiel principles for running the game – mapwork, orders, reports etc…, but used a very simple combat resolution system to ensure the game didn't slow down too much for the players. I am working with the Reisswitz rules though for a face-to-face game and second what Rich says about the rules system.

Thomas you would be very welcome to join us at a game at Hemel – keep an eye on the Kriegsspiel Yahoo group or the Krieggspiel News website:
